GE Night Hawk Platinum Review (headlights)

So I posted on Thursday about Amazon having a killer deal on these headlights. $16.88 with a $10 mail in rebate. I was tired of my old yellow dim headlights so I went ahead and ordered a set. They claim up to a 90% increase in light (I know that was very unlikely) but I figured they had to be better than what I had.

Got them at about 7:00 pm friday night, went out, threw them in and well... see for yourself.

First pic is old vs new. Can you tell which one is the new one? haha

Second pic is against my garage at about 6-8 feet low beams.

Third pic is from about 25 feet low beams. (I think I need to adjust my headlights just a little)

Needless to say, I am very pleased with them.

That's some pretty nice gains! Out of curiosity, how old is your old headlight bulb you are comparing it to?

Honestly im not sure how old they are. I have had the truck for around 2.5 years and they were in it when I bought it so at least 3 years old.

That is my only concern on these bulbs is longevity but at $6.88 for the pair, even if they only last a year, I will be happy with them.

Have you ever done a retrofit or did you just swap the bulbs from your 97 original housing?

I can barely see anything at night with my 98 headlights but I am way to lazy to do a retrofit or buy new headlights. With winter coming, I'd like to improve the performance if possible and I am interested in doing just this.

This was simply a basic bulb swap on the stock 96 housings. I ordered the 9003 bulbs on amazon and it took about 5 minutes to take the old ones out and put the new ones in. Just make sure to wear latex gloves so that you dont get any kind of oil or dirt on the glass of the bulbs as that will cut the life drastically.

Price has gone up by $2 since I bought them but with the $10 rebate, its still under 10 for a pair.

Here is the link for the correct bulbs.

I went ahead & bought these at $18.99 a pair. Amazon delivered them on a Sunday...
I've installed them, but haven't seen how well they work yet, will know tonight on my way home from work. My existing bulbs looked brand new, but I was getting quite a bit of CSS (can't see sh!t) with the stock bulbs. If these are 5% brighter, they are worth $19.

...and what a PITA without the use of one index finger and some turd put the boots upside down...

Thanks for the heads up on this deal DJ! I bought a set also. Installed them yesterday in my Taco. I had some Phillips Xtreme bulbs so I put them in my T4R. I also used the 3M headlight restorer on my moms 2004 Highlander and put Silverstars in hers. So I'll be able to see the performance and longevity of all these puppies.

I would say that I am getting about 50%+ more light out of these bulbs over stock.

The best feature IMO is the nice cool wite light over the stock dingy yellow.

We'll see how long they last...

Put these in my runner and it def. helped at night. More light output and the price is not bad either.

Did you get the rebate back yet? I just ordered the bulbs. I'm pretty sure I'm running the original 17 year old bulbs. I don't recall ever changing them so this should be quite an upgrade.
