Projector Retrofit Picture Thread and FAQ
I'm sure it's been asked before, but it isn't in this thread. Mini H1 or D2S?
I'm not worried about the cost.
I really just want increased output.
I also will be doing rear switchbacks.
As far as shrouds go I like the mini turbine the best, but it only goes on the H1. So I guess I'm just looking for opinions on which direction I should go.

Hey Guys,
Ive got a 1997, and the headlight isn't a clear glass. What years do I need to look for? Or is there another option I should look at?
Thanks in advance!

Figured I'd share a new product on our site for those looking to build a set of projector retrofit headlights.
"We have done some of the work for you and have laid out of the products we use for our retrofit builds. We will be constantly adding and upgrading this page to include the hundreds of options you have when designing your very own set of retrofits."
Here you can find housings, projectors, halos, demon eyes, and build materials so you can start your build!

Can the HID retrofit allow us to flash our headlights?
I was told by a friend that HID isn't fast enough to flash and that flashing tends to burn the ballast. Is that correct?
Thanks!

I can flash my brights and doing so has nothing to do with the ballasts, the solenoid raises the "gate" in front of the bulb - at least on my DDM DS2s

I presume that is with the low beam on. What if the headlights are off, during the day and you want to flash?

Well, in that case, they won't be very bright if the ballasts are cold

Hi all,
Sorry if I missed it in this thread, but has anyone done a retrofit without using an oven to open the assemblies? If so what did you use to open the headlights? I was really hoping to order some projectors off TRS for black Friday, but my mom doesn't want me to use her new oven for opening headlights lol

I used a heat gun for similar reasons. I had no issue opening up and resealing the housings with a little bit of patience. Work the heat slowly and don't leave it too long on one specific spot, of course.

All,
One thing I do want to mention that I did mention in the previous thread was that I found 350 degrees at 7 minutes to be significantly easier to work with when removing the glass. Should only take like 1-2 to minutes to remove.
It looks like some people have removed their battery to do some testing in the previous FX-R thread is that still necessary with the Morimoto Mini D2S 4.0?
I see that people don't bolt down the mini D2S is that correct?
I've also watched this video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-YrzD6-jHQU&t=309s
and noticed the glue they projectors and shroud together, I'm assuming using the metal tape on the projectors and then gluing to the metal tape is the better alternative here. They also didn't Dremel anything on the headlight housing, is that even still necessary?
Sorry for all the questions, usually I'm very capable of doing things on cars but this kind of mod isn't my normal thing at all.

I think I've managed to sort it out. Seems like the D2S 4.0 projectors should just bolt up. Not really sure why the video I posted the guy didn't loctite the projector on, seems like it doesn't really allow for any movement. Really don't want the projector just falling off into the lens!
