Installing a Pioneer FH-X700BT into a 99 limited. Need help!

Hello everyone, this is my first post on the site and sadly it's a request for help. I got a new pioneer FH-X700BT stereo for christmas and can't seem to get power to it. My stock stereo works just fine but for some reason the new stereo just isn't getting power. The only difference in the hookup is that the small, what i believe to be a rear antenna, cable isn't hooked up. Any input?

Did you bypass the factory amp?

are you using an aftermarket radio to stock wiring harness adapter?

those are pretty bullet proof... just match the colors.

and, yes, remove the factory amp.

I was told i wouldn't need to remove the factory amp but i guess it wouldn't hurt to try a bypass. Thank you!

My advice ... run new power (+) and (-) 12G wire from the battery to the new head unit. You must also put a simple $5 fuse (any auto parts store) within 10" of the battery on the (+) wire.

This will help you avoid that "engine whine" that some people get with aftermarket head units.

I just installed a Sony head unit a couple of days ago, and I found that I did have to bypass the factory amp in order for the wiring harness to clip together. It should be two plugs, one smaller than the other that clip together. As long as you match (color to color) the wires, you should be getting power just fine. Good luck.

Here's a good writeup on head unit installation. Howto: 2000 Stereo Replacement - Toyota 4Runner Forum - Toyota 4Runner Enthusiasts Forum That writeup also tells you how to combine both front and rear antennas into one for an aftermarket head unit.
