$318. for headlight assembly

I have a rock chip in one of my headlight lenses. As far as I can tell no water gets in but I would like to keep my 4-Runner looking new. I went to my dealer and they want $224.00 for the headlight assembly and $94.00 for labor.

I think that $318.00 is a lot, any suggestions where I can get one cheaper?

you can buy BOTH headlights at least $150-200. then you can assemble it yourself. it wouldn't be hard but never tried it myself. and i'mpretty sure there's a diagram in this t4r.org website.

And they actually aren't too hard to install.

its easy to remove the headlight, the PITA is removing the front grille. you have to remove that, in order to get to the nuts on the headlight. you will also have to remove the turn signals to get to another nut. the signals pull straight out with a little persuasion. then the painted metal panels below the headlight also have to go. but its not too bad.

After seeing this thread I am wondering if anyone out there does a decent headlight cover?

I had a set of snap on plastic/lexan covers for my 95 4Runner. I'd like to find a set for my 2000 as I'd rather not shell out $100+ each time I catch a rock in my headlights.

I think I will just live with the little rock chip. It seems like it is staying dry inside.

Thanks to all for responding.
