can't program wireless door lock

I am sorta a wits end on this. I can't get into programming mode for adding the fob remote. I have tried the dril 20 to 30 times. I looked at another thread but cannot get this work. I can't get to the part where I push the buttons on the remote.

I have 99 limited and wireless is standard on these. It has theaf deterent system sticker on the window, I don't know if that is standard or could cause a problem with this.

The door lock is sluggish will not cycle 5 times, but I used the push pull tip in tread below, but still no joy. I wound if it is too sluggish for this??

using these instructions: 1999 Toyota 4Runner

Here is thread I looked at but it is very long and goes on tangents
Programming Instructions for keyless entry remote?

In summary: the dril is: door open -key in/out- 5 cycles - door close-open - 5 cycle - key on/off 2 times
But it will not provide the two cycles that confirm that it has entered programing mode.

I also tried the key on/off 1 time and 5 times as mentioned in the tread

Can anyone please help. Please save me from having to go to the stealership.

I'm not sure if the 99 is the same as my 97, but there is a black box under the driver's seat with a pinhole in the side. All you do it push a safety pin in for 3 seconds, then the security light will turn on for 5 seconds. Within that 5 seconds you just press a button on your FOB and it's programmed.

^^^This looks much easier but if that isn't an option try just one (1) on/off on the final step instead of 2. I just did the FOB I bought on ebay yesterday and and that is the only way my rig (2000 SR5) would get into program mode. It took me about 10 tries before my bro suggested trying the 1 on/off and it worked so just stuck with it - working great now.

Thanks for info. I have a 1999 Limited and it does not have a box under the seat. Also I have tried one ignition on/off on final step. I am wondering if the lock actuator is so sluggish that this won't work even pushing/pulling the lock.

Is there a way to confirm that this 4runner has wireless capability????

Look for this puppy (chirp box) on the inside passenger fender wall towards the rear:

I would think a '99 Limited would have it. There would be no box under the seat. System is built into the Body ECU and the Backdoor ECU.

make sure the remote is the right remote.

validate that the FCC ID of the original remote matches the FCC ID of the new one

Try hanging a battery charger on the battery and letting it charge for a while, then leaving the charger on when attempting to program the fob. This usually helps a sluggish door lock actuator. Also, get out of the car, lock the doors with the key, then unlock the driver's side door with the key, then the rest with another clockwise turn of the key in the driver's door lock cylinder, (to check the integrity of the wiring from the switch to the ecu). It should unlock all doors with a two cycle key turn.

To be sure you don't have a hood open switch, use something to close the latching mechanism, just don't forget to pull the hood release before attempting to close the hood.

I've also found that if it doesn't work the first time, starting the car and then shutting it off before trying again is helpful.

These lock systems are tired, they do work best when you turn the truck off after driving a while but you still need to help it out when trying to cycle and program a key fob. One hand operating the switch, the other pulling up and down on the pull "nob" simultaneously doing the lock/unlock sequence. The lock/unlock sequence is 5 times each so it's really 10, do it pretty fast....then press the door close button in the jam and cycle it again the same way...then do the on/off ign switch twice.....etc..... just programmed my second one yesterday with this method.[2000 4Runner] Took several attempts, but just kept giving it a shot every time I shut my truck off after driving.

Sorry to bring this thread back from the dead, but I am currently having the same issues and I'd like to know how you ever fixed it. I've tried everything. I've searched every forum. I've even tried using techstream (just to discover my crappy Chinese cable was garbage.)
