Help 1999 4Runner Motor

How can i clean the engine motor, It looks very yellow? Thanks.

I soak mine in a mild degreaser, then scrub the trouble areas with a medium brush and powerwash everything off. I have the motor on when spraying and try to keep from soaking the electronics with a direct spray.

I would not recommend washing the engine with water. 3rd gen 4runners are now old and the rubber seals in the electrical connectors are weak.
Use acetone and cotton wool to clean the dark spots on METAL parts only. Don't use acetone on rubber or plastic parts. It is easy to clean a 4 cylinder.

I just did mine, covered all main electrical components with sandwich bags ie maf, abs, tb, coils, then I had a hay day w gunk as 3rzrunner mentioned, agitated it w a stiff nylon brush and sprayed more and then drenched her w a water hose and started her up and warm up to dry everything and not an issue, btw 263k
