Replace E-locker diff with Non locker unit?

The rear diff is failing on my 1998 Limited with E locker function. I don't actually use that function and a standard unit is about $500 cheaper. So will it bolt in fine?

It will not fit, the who axle housing will have to be replaced.

That is news to me, of course my experience is with FJ80 axles, but the 3rd member is only thing you have to change on those. Does the rear 3rd gen axle have a notch or something to accommodate the elocker?

Dang! Figured it couldn't be that easy.

It's the pinion bearing that's bad actually, but the gears have always been louder than most, so I'd like to replace the entire unit. Does that east coast gear supply do rebuilds?

Yes, they have a core exchange program where they offer rebuilt used units with a core charge for your old unit.

I know the standard housing has to be modified to accomodate the locker, but won't it work going the other way? Will it leak or something?
