Rinning Boards or No Running Boards?

What is ya'lls opinion on this for a '99 Limited? Got 265/75/R16 BFG ATs on it and was wondering if it would look better without the running boards.

i dunno... it would really depend if you wheeled it or not, i personally like how the running boards hide your frame, but if you put some sliders on it, you can hide your frame that way. either way you go, it takes about 10 minutes to remove them and that way you can look and see...

they do look better without, however i ended up putting mine back on because my fender flares were getting tore up from rock chips, and road debris. cool for awhile, but then you realize that its not really worth the chips. unless you dont care about them, then i say go for it!

Removing the running boards gives you a little more ground clearance. However, as another poster indicated, they do an excellent job of protecting the paintjob from rocks. So if you don't install some mudflaps you can expect some rock chips on your paint.

SO the moral of this story is... If you've already got rock chips -- oh well.

Could also have to do with the tires. My Revos throw rocks like you wouldn't believe. Your Michelins probably don't pick up as many. I also don't have the cladding on my SR5.

very true! also the roads vary as well. i hit a lot of trails, and i also drive over to see family which means i travel on a lot of roads that are rocked for snow/ice. the bfg's throw rocks like no other. so i suppose it would depend also on the tires you have or roads you drive as far as rock chips, but i wish i didnt take them off now.

I have an 2001 SR5 with painted fender flares, and i like it without the running boards, it makes it look higher.

I took the drivers side off for the "off road" look and left my passenger one on because my grandfather has trouble getting in with out it:arrow:

Cool

And to think this was originally over a $400 opt. I took mine off, I like the fact that the old ones actually looked like trucks, unless you really are going to pick the kids up from soccer practice...

i took them off my ride because some douche with a dodge ram and nerf bars backed up starting turning his wheel way to early and his nerf bars screwed my right rear part of running board up..

it does show some frame without them really the swingarm in the back.

but it does look lifted if you have 265 tires on there like i do.

i wanna get em back on though because i need em when i start rowing on the lake with a small canoe or banana boat
