It's certainly a quick mod, a great 10 minute mod that adds a ton of smiles!

Like mentioned before, I would not recommend the second half of this mod which cuts the 5mph regulator, I certainly think that's a safety issue. For some reason my foot always gets heavy when I push the RR button, drifting gravel roads are so much fun!

Park, let us know how you like it once you give it a spin!

Oh and I'm sure it was mentioned already but the 5mph just means you can't lock till you slow down to said limit, however once locked travel as fast as is safe

So I took the runner down to the river after work. It's mostly soft sand. I found that using 4Hi with the diff lock, gave me great propulsion through the sand. I just wish I'd done this mod sooner. Turns on a dime offroad now. I'll throw up some pics.

I have to see much evidence that Toyota designed it wrong.

I say leave it alone. My eLocker works great and no need for the change.
I did this on my first 4Runner and didn't do it on my next 3 vehicles. I didn't see a big reason for it because anytime I needed the locker was a precision and speed wasn't going to solve my problem. I'm perfectly happy with having to be in 4Lo and not moving to engage the locker. I know when I was younger I was a different mindset. After seeing the light, literally, I've changed. I understand the side who wants to do it, but if I had to suggest anything to anyone would to be, not do it. If you really needed it than think about what your plans for the vehicle is/was...

Just my 2cents ...

Mine doesn't seem to work.

I followed the directions to a T. Did I miss something?

yep one of my favorite early mods.

wrong color wire, supposed to be blue or gray Otherwise looks good.

However, I myself would never use red for a ground. Red is usually. a power source
Black, brown or green are the most common manufacturer grounds.

But it s your car and you know its a ground and thats all that really matters

enjoy the mod

Sorry, I should have written that out more clearly. It doesn't seem to work in any gearing, 2H, 4H, or 4L. I tested it before I bought it and I could hear the actuator engage in 4L. Now, I seem to have screwed it up altogether.

I couldn't find my spool of black wire and happened to have a red wire that was already cut to the right length. I found the spool of black right after I finished. The truck itself is probably scoffing at the color choice though. She's an earth tone type. The red is too bright for her style.
