Power lock only works when key is in ignition
Has anyone ever had their power lock switch only work when the key is in the ignition? Also, it works backwards, so pressing UP on the switch locks and DOWN unlocks...
The Service Manager at a local Toyota dealership said he had a guy with this same problem who solved it when he installed the correct Back Door ECU. Just like with mine, the guy had a 99 4Runner that had the whole tailgate replaced with one from 96-98. When he replaced the 96-98 ECU with a 99-00 ECU the problem completely went away.
Well I just got a 99-00 ECU and harness from Nissanh via this forum. Before with the 96-98 ECU, the only thing in the tailgate that worked was the tailgate switch to raise/lower the window. No wiper, washer, defroster, or window switch on the dash.
Now that the new ECU is in there, the dash switch works (my goal from the beginning), the defroster seems to work (LED comes on), and I can squirt washer fluid on the window.
But the locks still act funny, the wiper still doesn't work, and now the tailgate switch that used to work does not.
I'm thinking that the new ECU only sorta works, because when troubleshooting the tailgate switch (which worked before) I get continuity between 9-Ground and 10-Ground on the BDECU as I should when I'm turning the key, but for some reason the volts simply aren't getting sent to Pins 11 or 12 (the window motor).
Apparently a brand new Back Door ECU would be about $500, which is more than I care to spend at the moment to get these things working.
Sorry for the long post, cheers if you're still reading!
