Fair Price for a 97 SR5

Gonna be selling the 4runner very soon and buying a 4th or 5th generation in July or August. What do you think I should ask for it?

1997 SR5 with 163K miles
V6 3.4L
Premium Sound
cruise control
power doors/windows
Tow Package
Rear Locker
Sun Roof
Roof Rack

Recent work done:
New steering rack busings
new LBJ
New OTE
New Bilstein 4600's
BRAND NEW Michelin LTX AT2 265/70/16 with less than 2K miles on them

Needs to be Done:
- Front Right CV boot is leaking
- muffler needs replacing (just started sounding like a cheap exhaust on a dumb civic or something, think there is a hole in it)
- brake booster hiss's when you hold the brakes down (has done it for years, brakes are fine with no leaks)
- Brake pads/shoes, rotors and drums will need to be done in the next year

Other than those it runs great. Has been an amazing car but it is time for an upgrade.

Blue book has it between $3,700 and $4,250 depending on what condition I claim. Considering the tires, shocks/struts I am leaning towards the $4,250 OBO mark.

Thoughts???

Maybe around $4,000 OBO considering the CV might need to be replaced....

The muffler is just a noise issue, it hasn't effected how the car runs.

I'd plug the exhaust hole, since you have new tires, I'd ask 4850 to leave some negotiating room-folks like to feel they're striking a deal by having priced lowered some. Luck!

Thanks Jgue! I appreciate the feedback.

I was thinking the same thing about the exhaust.

Anyone ever have a hole in a muffler before?

I haven't been able to see any hole. I was driving the other day, and hit a bump with a bunch of gravel and chunks of ice on the road. Right after the bump all of the sudden my car sounded like it had a shitty cheap exhaust on a stupid car. The noise is definitely from the back of the car, so I'm pretty certain it is muffler.

Anyone ever go through this?

Alright so I ended up putting a new muffler and tail pipe on, old one could not be plugged and the tail pipe broke off from the muffler.

Also did both CV boots.

The more I am thinking about this with the brand new tires, bilstein shocks/struts, all of the suspension and front end work I just did and the fact that it is in great shape compared to other 3rd gen's I'm seeing on Craigslist I think I'm going to ask 5,500 OBO and see what happens.

Anyone think that is to much or a good price?

I wouldn't pay that much for it, but that's about what I would list it for. The Toyota resale market is very strong in CO and the only way to survive is to buy low and sell high. Most of the the 3rd gens I looked at were $6500+ but ended up buying one much cheaper. I would think you can get $5000 easily out of it if it's clean inside (as clean in before listing and keep it clean) and have at least recent maintenance records.

ARC,

Thank you for the input. I put up an ad for the 5500 and am still getting emails about it right away. I noticed how high the market in CO was by looking around. Also I'm seeing Gen 3's for 6,000+ that have way worse interiors and an extra 100K miles on top of mine.

Thanks for the input

If you don't mind, keep us posted. I also have a 1997 SR5 that I may be parting with soon here in Louisiana. I'm interested to see how you do selling yours.

Thanks and GLWS!
