Paint Code for Finish Panel / License Plate Bezel

I searched the forums and could not find confirmation of the paint code. I am thinking it is the same as the 1998 Dark Grey Metallic (paint code 156).

Does anyone know the actual code or can confirm my thought on it being 156?

Thanks ind advance for any input - William

I recently got my license plate trim repainted when I rebadged my truck with the JDM Hilux Surf emblem, and I never found the paint code, so the paint shop just color matched as close as they could - the result was a tad darker with more metal flake, which I actually prefer to the stock color.

I know that the name of the paint color on my bumpers is called Dark Gray Metallic by Toyota, and the license plate bezel was the same color, so I can only assume that you found the correct color, or at least very close. I could never find confirmation of a paint code, though, even from Toyota - they told me that the bumpers simply don't have a code.

In the sticky at the top of the 3rd gen thread, there is this chart. Look halfway down the page and you will find your paint code(s).

3rd Gen FAQ, Tutorials, & Documentation Reference v2

It doesn't say anything specific about the bezel color, and I don't see 156 listed anywhere.

For 1998 the lower cladding came in two colors when not matching the truck. Silver and Dark Gray(156). If yours matches the cladding, then it is correct.

You can see it here

Thanks folks - I think it is the 156 Dark Gray Metallic after comparing it to a 1998 or 1999 (not sure what the year was).

I might go a different route and find something close in a powder coat color, then PC my wheels and get a can of the same color to repaint the bezel.

I know this is an old thread but I agree on the paint code for the license plate bezel. Dark Grey Metallic paint code 156, used on the fender flares of 96-98 limited's. I think most license plate bezel's are so faded it is hard to tell. But if you find a new bezel for the 99-2002 it looks identical to the 156 paint code. If you have a local Sherwin Williams automotive paint store they can mix the paint and put it into a rattle can. I believe it's around $40 though. I would just confirm if the paint Toyota used was a two stage paint? Spray base coat then spray a separate clear. Or if it was a single stage paint, clear was mixed into the base color when spraying. Being that there is metallic in it I assume it was a two stage.
