To much lift with toytec/eibach coils? Ride is very stiff

I just finished my suspension lift on the 4runner and I love the stance but i got way to much lift up front. I am measuring 25 inches from center of wheel to fender. That puts me at 4.5"-4.75" of lift!
The short drive i did was terrible. The front bounces almost like I have no suspension travel. Is this common after a new install? I know the coils will settle a bit over some time and driving but to be honest it is pretty damn scary to drive with the front end being so stiff. Anybody have any tips, tricks or a common experience? Here are the specs.....

2002 4runner, 4wd, V6
Toytec/eibach 3inch coils part#11260
Bilstein 5100 Tundra set on lowest perch. Part# 24-188265
Land Cruiser 8 wraps

These coils where not a complete set. I bought all the pieces and had a shop assemble the coil asseblies for me, and I did the install.

How does your upper control arm/upper ball joint look?

I had a buddy that brought his truck up to a off-road shop to get coils installed and the front end bounced off of every little bump on the road once leaving the shop. Like you said, it felt like the front end was solid and nothing was cushioning each bump. The front end was ALIVE! Bouncing every other second. His upper control arm was contorted and spring was improperly seated. Check 'em.

He got his truck towed from his house though.. His springs/hub looked like a grenade waiting to go off.

Brian, That is a very interesting story, that is exactly what my rig is doing. The upper control arm is at a awful angle, and the angle of the upper balljoint makes me cringe when i look at it. I did post some pics but if need be i will take the wheels off to get better shots.

The coil spring seats are installed upside down... common mistake.

Disassemble the coils/shocks, flip the bottom spring seat, reassemble.

Yeah, that looks scary!

I know it's a different set-up, but it should look more like this...

That control arm is seriously extended. I would look at it closely when you get it opened up again...

eYUP!!!...LOL!!

That happened to a friend of mines runner years ago. It bounced around like crazy.

Be sure to get an alignment once you get everything corrected.

Oh geez what a newb! I had a feeling that something was wrong with the coils. I just wasn't sure what was the culprit.

My history of project trucks and lift are all torsion bar and leaf applications, so this was my first time working on coil suspension, and it sure did show!

Well now I know how the 4runner would ride with those billies cranked all the way up!

Haha, your Bilsteins cranked all the way up won't ride anything like that. That is a completely different feeling to have the mounts upside down. Trust me.

They are correct but also make sure you install the coils on the Tundra second perch for a full 3" of lift. The 1st perch won't get you 3" up front. Here's a thread that explains it. http://www.toyota-4runner.org/3rd-gen-t4rs/171654-tundra-5100-vs-5100s.html

Thanks guys,

Got the coil assemblies correct, and put the tundra billies on the second notch as recommended by scrunner12.

The ride is so much better, and I am pleased with the stance. I got 3.5 in front(starting to settle a tad) and 4.5 in the rear.
