Hi, I am new to the Toyota 4Runner world and I just got my license. My parents gave me their 1998 Toyota 4Runner Limited. I have yet to explore this car. I know some basics about this car and one of them is that it's RWD. I just had an occurrence in which it confused me a lot. I was trying to back up in my driveway to park and I didn't have enough power to go all the way up. my front tires were on the slanted part of the driveway. Once I stepped on the gas to give more power, my tires made a skid sound and once I parked on the driveway, I checked outside to see my tires and there was a skid mark in front of the car left by the front wheels. Also, realize that I was in 2WD and not 4WD. I know all generations of the 4Runner are RWD but this is extremely confusing. My only theory is that a certain communication activates in the drive train is that when the rear wheels lose traction and are stuck, the power is transferred to the front wheels. (AWD switched around lol) I'm pretty sure my 4Runner is RWD, but somehow my front wheels moved without 4WD... Please fill me in why this happened.
ummmmmm does it make sense that you were reversing when your rear tires broke loose and just so happened you stopped where your front tires appeared to make it look like they made the skid marks??????

I think that it's possible that that year/model is AWD. If so then any one of the 4 tires can be the driving tire at any time and is able to make a skid mark
