Starts then dies. Will start an drive on 3rd, 4th try; will drive fine til ~1800RPM
Hello everyone!
New to the forum. Purchased my '00 4R SR5 3.4 about a year and a half ago. Was driving home after a hot day at the lake recently doing about 60mph, after a gradually throttling up to 70mph to pass someone when it began cutting out (i.e. not responding to throttle or delayed throttle after a few seconds) then it just died. Was able to coast off the side of the road where I let it sit. Tried starting it a couple times where it started fine but died right away. On the fourth time I gave it a little gas an got it running enough to limp it home. Just before this happened I ran it damn near out of gas getting home from a bit of a road trip (I know..BAD). Never really get on it, treat her good.
Since I got it home does pretty much the same thing; will start then die a few times then will start, idle fine after a little gas an drive decent in low rpm situations. Once I get it past 1800rpm's or so it begins to lag and cut out big time. Limped it in to the local auto parts store where they plugged it in and got the code P101 MAF sensor which looked fine (i.e. clean) after pulling it out to clean.
In the past couple days have tried/replaced:
1) Fuel Filter
2)One corroded (electrical fittings) coil pack (which I can tell had been replaced prior as the other two are stock Denso coils). Inside thee plug boot had a quite a bit of flakes or chunks of boot on an around the plug as if it burnt or been corroded.
3)Plugs and plug wires (which some jackwagon had the single ground plugs in instead of the recommended double ground plugs).
4) Looked at both 02 sensors which looked fine with just a little carbon build-up but then again I wouldn't know a bad 02 sensor if i saw one.
5)Cleaned MAF sensor. (after cleaning the MAF it started and idled fine on the first time but died once shifting into gear).
Dont know much but not really thinking its the fuel pump if it starts fine and even drives...kinda. At a loss, Any an all advice at this point is greatly appreciated!!! Thanks in advance!
