***Missing a part! What is it?***

I just bought my 4Runner Friday and this piece (red circle) was missing! What is it? Could I get it from the dealership fairly inexpensive??

im almost 100% positive thats your shift lock override. your not missing anytihng. if your shifter is locked and you cant shift out of park. stick your key in there and it releases it. once agina im not compltly sure, but im sure someone can either agree with me or tell me im an idiot. mines the same way

all you have to do to unlock your shifter (in an emergency) is stick something in the hole. and it releases

Lightbulb

theres no button to be missing. your 4runner is exactly as it should be. its designed that way. as i said you just stick the key in the hole. thats how its supposed to be. look in the manual it says the same thing. if you go looking for a button you will be looking for the rest of your life because it doesent exist.

haha...but there is no hole there for me to stick a key in. its a white tab that is sticking up and it looks like its missing something. my console doesnt look like the one in the pic, but of course the 4runner in the pic is a 98 (i think) and mine is an 00....who knows, i guess i'll just have to look inside another 00 or 01 and see what they have.

oh ok, it appears someone has used it before then.

i dont remember what i did, but i had that white thing too when i used mine when it needed to be towed due to a dead battery... i think i just pushed it back in and replaced the cover.

See, if you compare the pic in the first post with this one, there is a definite difference in the two. Obviously I'm missing the cover to this supposed "shift lock" mechanism.

Also, what the hell is that round rubber piece that says "cell phone holder"??? How does that hold a cell phone, haha?
