Makes sense,
@ gamefreakgc
! 1 and 3 sound like common sense. #2 is unfortunate.

Yeah, at my old place I didn't have a garage so I did put a kill switch on my Pickup. A few cars got their windows smashed in, but they also kept a lot of stuff in the front seats so they were obvious targets.
It does give peace of mind though!

Will just pulling a few plug wires keep it from starting? Car thieves on the whole, not genius level fellows. For all I know the truck will run on 2 of 6 plugs. :b

That whole proof of ownership is now state law here in IL. Not sure about other states though.

You don't want to do this. Human laziness will take over soon and you won't bother with it anyway. Besides, you will wreck your plug wires quick and have to replace them. If you really think you won't mind popping your hood every time you would be better off with a battery disconnect switch.

Actually, I would really hate this. My wife and I went camping in Michigan for a week. We took her Hyundai because it was before I got the 4Runner. The car came with Hyundai Assurance from the dealership, Anyways, We when hiking and during the hike I lost the keys and could not get into the car. We called the number for Hyundai Assurance and all the lady did was ask her for the vin#, her name, and address to verify the account. Then the lady called the nearest Hyundai dealership to give them a heads up that we were coming and to have the keys ready for us for free. Called a cab to the dealership to pick up the new keys and headed back to camp like nothing happened.
Edit: They verified her identity at the dealership as well by checking her ID
