Here's a couple from our hiking trip last week in the mountains around town. There's a "road" of sorts for about 10 miles, washouts and river crossings, before you're on foot.
We spent the whole day hiking, back to the car around 9pm. Rule number 1? Always stay on the "road". Made a split second wrong decision to avoid the worst of the washouts, turned onto the clay and mud looking for a easier way around. The result? Sunk to the frame.
This is the first time in 3 years that I have actually gotten stuck in the Yota. We were digging with our hands, wedging driftwood under the wheels, desperately trying to get traction in the goey liquid clay. This is a remote area and cell reception would be a 15 mile walk away through bear and wolf country, at dusk.
The Kachemak mountain gods finally took pity on us after Midnight, and we broke free. Grateful for the midnight sun up here, or this might have been a very different story.
Not bad for a stock vehicle! ...I have GOT to get some diff lockers.
Aaah... Spring time. Is that Prudhoe? So THAT'S how you afford all those aftermarket parts! Haha.
Only been up here for about a year with this company. Right in Deadhorse really. Fire and Gas upgrade at FS1. That finished up and we're doing pre-tar at GC1 right now. The past year has been really good, but price of oil is catching up to everyone. All our projects have been getting pulled and put on hold for a while.
Long term goals on this build are pretty low-key. Basically just gonna be a weekend-warrior and daily-driver so I'm probably not gonna be doing any heavy wheelin'. That being said...I still wanna be able to go anywhere I wanna go, anytime I wanna go there, and still look dope while I'm doing it
Also, I hear ya loud and clear on the running boards. My old lady is only 5'1 so she pitched a fit when I said I was gonna ditch them...lol
Guess I'll end up replacing them with nerf bars just to keep her happy.
My build started off like how you're thinking. Plus, upgrading whenever anything needs to be replaced. It's still that type of build but aimed more for exploring and expidition as well. Keep wife happy and keep the running boards till you bend one. Then get sliders. If nothing else they help keep people from dinging your truck in parking lots and she can still use them for a step. Nurf bars.... lol
I have an aftermarket one avail that I've had on my own 4Runner for years. It's one of my fav mods, and every time I'm at a gas station and pull next to another 4Runner, they always ask why the front looks so good
Camped out in Sequoia National Park this weekend with some buddys! It was a 7 hour drive from San Diego to the camp site. About 3 hours into the drive, my engine temp went through the roof and I could smell coolant. My radiator, that I installed only a year ago, had a nice crack in it. Filled her up with water and drove to an AutoZone 30 mins further down the road. I swapped out my radiator in the parking lot in one hour flat! Finished the drive, pitched a tent, got a fire going, and had some cold ones with the boys.

May I ask, which radiator? I'm looking to change mine soon. Thanks
