My ignition switch is stuck (won't turn) 00 4runner

My key will not turn to acc :/ and I need it in order to take out the ignition switch.
I called several Toyota dealers to see how much parts are and the cheapest I found the ignition cylinder with the transponder key is 215 before tax
And to program it with the ecu they want 115 another dealer said 220 just to program a key

Here you go - something here might help, sounds like same issue.

Key - keyhole (ignition) locks up - won't turn

Dumb question, but is your column locked? Try jiggling the steering wheel back and forth while turning the key. You can also try pushing the shifter around while in park, the truck might not think it's in park.

To the front left of the shifter there is a tab. Remove the tab and you button is there. Set you parking break if you on an incline

don't take it out of park if it's "in" park. Just try banging/tapping on the shift handle while attempting to turn the key. That's a weird problem. Maybe your key is so warn it's not unlocking all the tumblers in the cylinder.

Edit: I guess you could push the shift lock release tab and see if the key will spin in neutral. If it does, it'll almost completely rule out the lock cylinder.

I found the same issue on my '02 Tundra. It is a common issue on the Siennas too. The tumbler was junk and I finally got it to move after spraying WD40 and jiggling it for an hour.

Based on what I learned here are my suggestions.
1. Google the problem. I found the same issue on early Siennas and Tundras too.
2. Learn how to swap out the ignition switch.
3. Go to Autozone and get a new ignition switch.
4. Find everyone's idea how to free the key. My suggestion is WD40 and jiggling every possible direction.
5. As soon as it frees, swap out that ignition switch. Yes, it is a different key.
6. Final option dealership or a mobile locksmith to swap it out.

If you only have one key I would try to get a new one cut based on the key code not a copy and see if it turns. The key could just be worn to the point that is does not make good contact with the tumblers.

Okay I will go to the dealer and have a key made but does anyone know if I can just get a regular key and if it it will at least turn because my truck usess the transponder key the one that looks like this and I know the dealer charges like 100 just for that one because they have to program it to the ecu. I will also try to move my shifter and see if that works aswell.

Just get a regular key cut first, then if that's the problem get a key that has a chip in it. In order to get truck to start with non chip key you hold the old key next to the ignition while using the new non chipped key.

Mine did that a couple years ago, the tumblers in the ignition get worn and don't engage to unlock when the key is inserted. It would happen once in awhile at first but as they got worn more I got stuck a few times trying over and over until it started luckily. You are right, to get the old cylinder out you need to turn the key to accessory which sucks when that is the problem in the first place. I would just keep trying to turn it over and over, jiggle it a bit to try to get those internals to line up better and engage and eventually you'll get it to turn. It might take 10, 20, 30 minutes or more. I've read that a locksmith can rebuild the old cylinder with better tumbler parts that are less likely to wear, or just buy a new cylinder and use two keys.

i have the same problem with one of my keys. I'm assuming that key is worn out. The other key works fine. I just jiggle the key up and down pull it out a bit, sometimes is starts right away and sometimes it takes a while.

Okay so I went to the dealer and had a key made for $11 a non transponder key
I come home and test it to see if can at least turn to acc, so as soon as I did it turned and the master key works now it turns freely. But the bad news is none of the keys turn the truck on :/ the engine just cranks and cranks and as soon as I let go of the key it stops.
