I recently bought a 99 4x4 auto 3.4 4 runner for my wife, and to use myself occasionally
. It has 168k and has a bit of rust, as well as some "deferred maintenance" over the years. I got it cheap and have already put some money into making it reliable. The other day I drove it for the first time in a few weeks and noticed that when you are coasting and apply the throttle, the truck veers to the left slightly, and when you let off it veers back left, each time having to counter steer to stay straight. It seems magnified at highway speeds (60-75mph). It also does the same but almost worse when turning the OD on and off at speed. I'm thinking rear control arm(s) on one (left) side? Has anyone else heard of or experienced this problem? If that is the answer, How difficult are the control arms to replace for an individual with good mechanical ability but lack of tools, work space, and motivation.
