I was in the middle of dropping the tank on my 2002 and ran across this issue of having the extra vent hose with that goofy connector.

I cursed you out like a sailor because you didn't explain how to detach it...but reread your post and sang your praises because you mentioned detaching the blasted thing at the evaporation box. That was key to saving my afternoon. After the spare is removed...there is plenty of room to see how it connects. and I used some small screw drivers on either side to get it off the evap box.
