alternative to broken remote fob hanger.

These 3rd gen remotes are flimsy. Mine came.with two remotes and both have broken hangers. So for a while I had to have the remote seperatley in my pocket and keys in car. So I found on amazon a unuiqe , nice looking key fob case. Perfect fix for a broken remote fob. Simply slide it into the case and hang it back on your keys. Got it for around $15. Came in one day. Figured I'd share this as I'm sure I am not the only one here with this situation. Plus I don't feel like glueing and messing with it and it peobbaly won't hold up. And this case seems much stronger and more usefull.

Another thing to consider is that you can get a replacement FOB on ebay for around $20.

i was looking to get a new fob, but the car audio/12v guys I work with said to just get a remote start. You get a new fob that will lock and unlock, plus the convenience of remote starting the car on blistering hot or freezing cold days. I think remote starts are around $100 installed

Couldn't find one for our remotes. And the ones I did were 50-60$ but I think it comes with the internals also, but to me , I think it's a bad design to begin with.

And yes, if you get aftermarket alarm/remote start. You get a new fob. Which is good. But it's not cheap. Good alarm with good remote fob plus installion.

Under $20 with internals. Got mine over a year ago an no issues so far. Solid build. But could be a different remote for the '97.

I got mine off ebay too, it has worked fine for 5 years now. It's a good route to go if you want the minimum in your pocket.

I bought one of these 4 or 5 years ago: * Toyota, Scion - thejacketstore.com, LLC
The hanger on my fob is toast, but this jacket has held up well.

The one in the link is for '01 model year, as the webpage plainly says.

Scroll down and you can use their lookup tool to find one for a '97. If you went through that procedure and it says it works for '97 then you have your answer already.

I just drilled a very small hole a bit above where it broke and ran a piece of fishing line tied in a loop.

I kinda did what Brian did, but a bit different. Mine broke a long time ago, so I got a sleeve. Not too long later, that broke too. Opened the thing up, took a paperclip, bent it up, and made a little hanger that doesn't move. Been sturdy for months now, and feels like it's going to last a long time.

because of this thread, I jumped on amazon, and ordered a new case, and silicone cover for my busted fob.

was about $15 for both pieces.
