Taco skid plate mod

Forgive my ignorance as I'm just getting into this whole 4Runner game, but is the "Tacoma skid plate mod" redundant on a 3rd gen (since we already have a ft. skid plate of sorts)??

And if not, is this "mod" mostly asthetic?

The Tacoma aluminum "factory rice" plate is the same that was stock on the '02 Sport editions and is pretty much for looks only but it does that quite well.
I have a Tacoma version which the only diff is the mounting brackets which work fine on the '96-'98s but with the newer "fatlip" bumper of the '99+ I had to make simple brackets to extend the plate about 3" forward which it perfectly hugged the front bumper and looks sweet.

Using the '02 brackets the plate extends too far forward and lower for my tastes and just puts it out there to be hit easier. I personally like my modded brackets better.
I'll see about some pics when i get my digi back from my brother.

This is the mod I'm talking about, although this write-up does it on a 4th gen.

RonMAIDEN, that's exactly the feedback I was looking for! And as I have a 2000, I would be very interested in seeing the brackets you fabbed up. No hurry, but pics would be great if/when you get a chance.

Thanks in advance!
