Well I bought these Hella MicroDE fog lights like a year ago, but I didn't get any mounting brackets with them. After buying fog light brackets for 'factory fog lights 2001', I realized the factory ones were for the Stanley lights, and the Hellas were a dealer installed option. Checked some junk yards, checked some lighting dealers online, can't find anywhere. Drew up some brackets and got the dimensions on another thread on here, and got a quote to get them custom fabricated, and it was too expensive and outweighed the cost of a brand new full kit.
So I got to thinking and realized I could just cut and bend a piece of the OEM bracket to mount the lights:
Before:
After cutting with dremel:
Then if you mount the Hella light onto the bracket and put them in the bumper, it looks like this:
So the Hella metal plates have to be cut, and a new hole re-drilled:
Then mounting it lines up nicely with the hole:
Only a single bolt holding them on, but I put a lock washer and some lock tight to make sure it doesn't come lose. Though I put a zip tie around it just in case it comes lose.
Then I got them mounted up, and got a OEM turn signal stock and relay, and plugged them in:
and ......... neither turned on.
So I took the boots off and both were severely corroded (white), and the wires were showing some exposed copper.
So I took them all apart and used vinegar and wire brushes to get all the corossion off:
I put new connectors on the wires, and ordered some brand new PIAA Xtreme White H3 bulbs.
I also picked up some 1/4" tubing and pressed into the breather tube. Then I wrapped plastic bag with some the GF's hair ties around to further keep water and junk out of them:
My god they work! I had to bend the bracket a tad to them to look good, and the adjustment screw to fine tune. Gives a nice low, flat cutoff, ideal for fog obviously.
