1999 SR5 seat belts.

What is the best way to repair/replace the seat belts. It seems like the return springs on mine are just worn out and will not retract.

threads I've read say disassembling is fraught with tiny parts reassembly frustration and failure. Cleaning them seems to work. something I intend to, but have not yet, done.

I may be wrong but I thought I read an article a few years ago about belts involved in a crash. IIRC the stress of a high speed crash causes the fabric to stretch and reduces the future life of the belt. If true I would be careful with a used belt

Ghostrider, I thought about that and if I do go to the yota yard I will pull them out of one that hasn't been wrecked. I read on another forum that cleaning the return mechanism could fix the problem.

There was a switch, in I think '99. The later models have an explosive squibb for the pre-tensioner so be sure you disconnect the battery for at least 90 seconds before you mess with one like that.

I have this link, but I think it is for the squib-less years and I have not tried it:

Minute Mod- Fixing Seatbelt Retractors

I have done the same thing successfully on a BMW e23(735i)
