New LBJS!

So long story short, had rear axle seal(drivers side) leak and I changed the axle seal and o-ring with my father. Either the seal went in again, we messed up, or it was the bearing. Anyway having my bearing changed now. So I told them about the recall for LBJS, they were hesitant about doing them(the dealership) but apparently his thing beeped that my vehicle can't leave without them being changed since it's a safety issue. So my question is, how much of a better ride can I imagine now? Is it very noticable? My LBJS were fine, just user the recall. Thanks!

Also posting this to alert people that the recall is still in affect 13 years later or whenever they posted the recall.(02 4Runner). I know they won't change just one side of the brakes, apparently if the shoes are badly soaked in diff fluid then they will want to change both sides. Is this really necessary? I'll just change them myself if I can get away with changing just one side. BTW, the brake shoes as drum are only 8 months old.

Sitting here for 5 hours after a 9 hour shift because I don't ever leave my girl alone...

Good call getting them done but not to burst your bubble.. I've never noticed any ride improvement from the few sets I've changed out as preventative maintenance.

yeah you wont notice a change, i think the wait for you having them done is longer than the time it would have taken to get the parts from the atuo store and do it yourself.

The ride will improve MASSIVELY when the new LBJs don't fail and prevent your wheel from flying off on the highway

Well as I said i came in originally for my rear axle bearing p be changed(one side). That was suppose to be 3-4 hours, not sure about with the LBJS now. Not sure if their tacking on hours or have one person doing the LBJS while one does the bearing. Would be nice, and would be smart for them so they can get it done quicker. But who knows. Plus it's FREE. And had warranty! Which I'm happy with! Too bad these bearings never had a recall... 600 smacks...

Yeah figured tha answer would happen lol. I just read some people saw an improvement. Mine weren't leaking but are old. I'd love to change my suspension but I'm strapped on cash and I'd want to change the springs too... They put in aftermarket crap and lowering springs. Sadly I didn't know this until I got a flat and my emergency bottle jack didn't fit under. Hoping to find a good junk yard in NJ that has the coils. I don't wanna buy new, craps expensive from what I remember seeing.

That's such BS some dealerships recognize this and others don't. I called like 2-3 in my area they all were like 'I'm not seeing anything'.

So I ended up doing them myself.

The other side is as dry as the desert and I work at walmart.... So it's bad enough this is my 2week paycheck lol. Now I found out that the bearing went, supposedly, because the parking brake is seized on the drivers rear side. They want 334, I wanna do it myself since I can et the cable pretty cheap
Compared to them. Anybody ever do this before? Shouldn't be too hard right? 1-10?

Are you sure it's the cable? Those cable arm things (sorry don't know what they're called) mounted on the back of the rear drum shields are known to fail.
