Fuel gauge always reads full

I have an issue.

I was replacing my starter today on my 99 v6 4runner and forgot to disconnect the battery prior. had a little sparkage from the power cable to the starter. Disconnected the battery and continue to replace the starter.

After I got the starter in and everything was hooked back up I went for a test drive. I noticed the fuel gauge was pegged on full and I know I did not have a full tank.

I am assuming the issue stems from the sparkage I had but can anyone direct me to a fix??

Thanks!!

either your fuel float in your tank is stuck at the top or the electronics for it may have shorted out

Is the gauge separate or integrated in the entire dash circuit board?
