Odometer is fading away...
Can't seem to find any answers about this. The decimal of the odometer is starting to fade and it makes it difficult to know what number it is displaying. It's not a big deal, but it annoys me, especially come time to fill up.
Does anybody know if I can take an odo out of another instrument cluster and replace mine while still showing the original mileage? Does the info get stored somewhere else or is it tied into that specific odo display?
Thanks!

Digital right? Then get a new bulb. Or go old school and tap it till it works.

My digital odometer is the same way. You can barely read the milage at night, forget about daylight. I have a friend at the dealer I'm gonna ask. I'll let you know if he recommends changing the bulbs.

I'd say remove the instrument cluster and pull all the light bulbs. Clean the light bulb with a damp cloth.
Can you see the other indicators well?

I didn't realize the odometer was just a bulb. All the other bulbs in the cluster work just fine, including the other digits of the odometer. dphflytyer, thanks! Let me know what he says.
Here's a pic of what I'm talking about. You can see the decimal should be showing 0 right now, but only the left side is fully illuminated, the top, bottom, and middle (and sometimes the middle e.g. an 8) is faded:

That doesn't seem to be build related. Man, keep us updated...mine will most likely do the same, she is getting a bit long in the tooth.

Sorry, the bulb won't help you in this. Picture is always nice to assess the situation. Have you tried to re-solder all the connecting points int the LCD display going into the circuit?
I am glad I have old school style!

LOL I guess it's staying dim for a long while! So there's no way to swap a JY odometer in place?

So this started happening to my truck within the last week. Have you found a fix for this or do I need to start doing some testing?

Great, was it one of the plugs behind the instrument panel?

No it was a circuit board plug in behind where you swap the bulbs for your gauges

We have a saying at work: 90% of electrical problems are mechanical.
Of course, I design electronics for a living.
