TRD/890 with bili 5100's, which front perch?

Hi all,
Did a search and read a ton of threads but could not find consensus on this. Got a basically stock 2002 SE. I've ordered the TRD coils, OME 890's for the rear. Tundra 5100 fronts and the "4runner" 5100 rears from wheelers. Running 100-150 pounds of gear in the back/and on hitch bike rack. Never tow but do occassionally haul 4 dudes and bikes plus gear. Stock bumpers and no other armor currently planned.

Seems like people are running the front 5100's on either the lowest or the 2nd perch. I'm fine with rake and don't want to sag with my standard gear, OK if its a little saggy with all my buds in the truck as I know that is a wide range of loads for one set up to handle well.

Was thinking of running lowest perch assuming the 890's would settle in under the mild extra weight and I may be close to level when hauling a lot of stuff. Thoughts and experience from you guys would be much appreciated.

For front with no extra weight, @Speedy did bottom perch in his video, paired with 906s in back. I think he ended up with 1/2 inch rake.

I saw that and read all of speedy's very helpful threads. I figured with the extra weight on my truck the extra height of the 890s would be better (even if 890s are a lower spring rate than 906s). I'd be fine with ~1 inch of rake. I am leaning toward using the lowest perch and just wanted to double check to be sure I wasn't way off.

2nd perch no doubt. I have the same exact setup and have about 1/2 of rake. Recently travelled to FL with 2 full grown teens and wife and about as much as one could fit in the back and I had no sag. Road very nice also (wife actually complimented the ride as she didn't like it when we 1st got the truck) 890's give full 3" and the tundra coils get around 2" of lift. Each perch setting is 2/3"

Finally installed my Tundra TRD/890 coils w/ 5100 all around

PS One more thing. If I were to do this again, when reinstalling the coilover asy, I would have disconnected the LBJ from the LCA, using a balljoint separator in those kits you can borrow from Autozone or Advance. I discovered this when doing my LCA bushings and all I had to do was jack the LCA up into position with the LBJ bolted in and guide it into the hole in the LCA, put the bolt in for bottom of the coilover and secure then jack the LCA up the rest of the way and put the LBJ nut on and torque everything up. So much simpler then that bottle jack method where I almost ruined the bolt threads trying to put it in.

Many thanks for the info--sounds like 2nd perch is the best starting point. I guess I can always drop the front if I don't like it. I'll put up before/after pics for future reference when it's done.

2nd perch and 890s is just right.
Keep an eye on those CV boots tho - they don't always appreciate their new spot...

Noted. I'm gonna install a dif drop too just as insurance. I've read several posts suggesting that the CVs need to be checked regardless and sometimes need a new clamp to behave themselves after the lift.... Thanks for the advice!

I'm on 890s and a diff drop.

My CV angle doesn't look bad whatsoever and I have maybe 1/2" of rake, maybe even less.

Here is a pic but where I was parked wasn't really level: http://i.imgur.com/wlJdnaD.jpg

There is. one will be a bit longer (A??) and that goes on the driver side to account for a bit extra weight (driver and gas tank)

Correct. I just had to swap them recently because they were installed incorrectly. "A" is the driver side and "B" is the passenger side. You will see a difference when you put the springs next to each other.

I just put tundra 5100s with 882/891 on my factory bumper 98. I put the fronts on the 2nd perch and I got a ton of lift from this setup. Ride is still nice too. I need some weight on it though to Bring it down.

I used the tacoma (D558 or something) 5100s from wheelers paried with 99 talls up front on the lowest perch. This helped me achieve 1 inch of lift in the front compared to my previous oem shocks with the 99 talls. I want to go with wheelers 5100s paired with 906s in the rear. Supposedly the 906s achieve 2 inches of lift so my hope is that I will achieve a mild rake of 0.5-1 inch (The back being higher). Can anyone comment on this setup? Currently I am riding with the front higher until I match the back. It measures 36.5" from ground to fender in the front and 35.5" from g-f in the rear.
