FRS Head Unit In A 3rd Gen

Has anyone installed the newer style touch screen head units that come in FRS's into a 3rd gen? I am really wanting to install a double din and really like how this one looks.

I take it that no one has installed one of these into their 3rd gens then. I might have to tackle this project once I get some more funds.

It doesn't really make sense to do so. Later models use a can bus for the backup camera and GPS. 3rd gens don't have that. You can buy a comparable Pioneer unit and have an easy install. Even if that FRS unit was free, it would be difficult. I'm not saying it isn't possible though.

What is the upside to using THAT unit?

I think it can be a good substitute if you are planning to keep the factory speakers.

If you are planning to add an amplifier and aftermarket speakers then go with an aftermarket head unit and new wiring. It will sound far better.

Most of those factory units, even the nice ones, have very low signal-to-noise ratio on their built in amps.
