LED Switchback Driving Lights Mod

Hey everyone, I'm trying to figure out how to create a retrofit solution to do exactly this (minus the strobe feature) with the bumper lights:

The guy who created this mod didn't supply any information, other than he purchased four sets of lights, two of the clear turn signals for the housing and then the LED's themselves. He mentioned in the comments he's a member here, but hasn't posted anything online.

Has anyone done anything similar or would have any idea on how to go about this?

LED switcback bulb for the corners!

I use these bulbs in my corner lights.
It doesn't come with them, or instructions telling you that you need them.....but you need to run resistors with them to work properly.
When I first read that, I had assumed it was to eliminate the "hyper-flash" that you get with LED bulbs. Since I already had LED bulbs in my bumper, I had already changed the flasher relay to fix it, so I decided to not use a resistor with these switchback bulbs.

What I found, though, was that the switchback bulbs need the resistors in order for the switchback operation to function. Without them, the bulbs are just always one color, and you can change that color by rotating the bulb within the socket. (so that they are always clear or always amber.)

*edit* Sorry, I just noticed in the Gallery thread that you're actually asking about the bumper lights, not the corner lights.

No problem. Thanks for taking the time to reply, probably will still need resistors since the concept is similar.

I'm looking into this right now, it seems kind of confusing how the lights turn on, do they use only the headlight switch to do the functions or do we have to install a separate switch.
I'm looking to see what all I need to do this and how it's wired to do the switchback. Looks sweet.

Exclamation

It looks like no one ya figured it out yet? I’m about to figure it out as the week comes. I have the switchback bulbs and the clear signal covers on the way. I see that the signal switches are two wires only. And they will require three for constant power, sort of like DRL, or make them work through the parking switch. I’m going to try and make them DRL but also turn the signal of course. See what happens.

I'll be interested once you get it figured out. Keep us posted.

Steve. Yeah I ended up buying new clear turn signal boxes and rebuilding the back where the signal bulb connectors go. Bought pigtails for three wire and third wire was used for DRL. Used it to come on when I started the runner. Then would go from white to yellow when turning. Was an interesting process.

@4Runn1nYota I know clipping the BK/YW wire on D2 Pin 12 disables the DRLs, but I as far as I understand, that just disables the headlights from turning on as the DRLs. Am I understanding this correctly?

I'd also like to remove headlights from the DRL circuit and setup my turn signal lenses with a switchback bulb/LED strip. Do you have any pictures from when you did it?
