Rear running lights and dash lights not working, just hooked up new trailer plug

Seems like both my rear rear running lights and instrument dash lights stopped working at the same time soon after wiring a new plug for my trailer. Did I botch the wiring job on the trailer plug? Is this is a known issue?

Turn signals and reverse lights still work. Just checked and the brake lights work too.

According to this post here: 2001 4RL -- lost tail lights and dash panel light

a trailer socket might be an issue... but it's never explained how or why.

Any tips for solving this problem guys?

I had something similar happen after renting a trailer with a real sketchy looking harness. First bump I went over the tail light fuse blew and smoke came out of the dash.

Did you ground it properly?

Umm, it's pretty obvious, disconnect the trailer wiring.

So I found and replaced the broken 10A "stop" fuse under the hood and it hasn't blown again. So the issue must have happened while I was driving the trailer.

I will try and connect the trailer and see if that blows the fuse.

Is it that my trailer wiring isn't grounded to the trailer? Or perhaps water and salt has gotten into the plug and connections are crossing.
