engine stumble when stabbing the throttle

my 97 4runner has recently started stumbling when stabbing the throttle from a stop. It doesn't happen every time, but when it does it seems to be stumble 3 times rapidly and then pick up again. If i stab it from idle i get the stumble, if i hold the brake and load it up it performs fine. plugs all look fine, but i don't know the age of the wires. i was going to replace the fuel filter this weekend. K&N was cleaned 2 weeks ago. no CEL is coming on. any other ideas?

any preference on fuel filter replacement? parts store fitment/sealing vs OEM.

thanks for the insight.

Besides replacing the fuel filter I'd spray out the MAF too.

Mine did a similar thing. It was the plugs and wires, so outside of that Im wasting your time.
