Painted 99 Grill from Imperial Jade Mica Green to Metallic Black
I have a 99 4runner Highlander edition - all of it is Imperial Jade Mica Green including the grill, which I love, but decided to switch things up a little.
I have seen so many flat black parts lately I kinda missed the gloss so thats what i went for - I just wanted anything near a black and I found some "Metallic black" so thats what i used
Heres what it originally looked like
Heres the end result
Started by braking a couple of the clips in the grill, but oh well zip ties actually worked better anyway
Emblem comes off with a couple screws in the back. Sanded it with 220 grit, then with a scouring pad for fine surface
then added a couple layers of primer
Then a couple layers of the "black" and a coat of clear and there it is

Mind telling us what paint you used for the "Metallic Black" and clear? Spray Can? Love the look of the color!

Update on the Black
After running that color a little bit it kinda seemed off to me, great color, but not much contrast
with the green, it seemed a little gunmetal grey-ish instead of a solid black. So i redid it with Nason Black
The black offers the contrast with the green that I was looking for so I am much more pleased
Original:
1st attempt (Metallic "Black"):
End Result:

I agree, I think it looks better with the regular black versus the metallic. I thought the metallic looked a little light, but didn't want to say anything haha

Yeah agreed haha, always open for feedback. I do like the contrast of the true black, so glad I redid it

Agreed, if i do that I might have to do all the plastic trim... Im thinking about it. The only thing is that the trim/valence were not originally that black
(more of a light black), partially because its not metal. What are your thoughts?

I used forever black on my upper portion of my bumper and the rear step pad thing. I just haven't had time yet to do the larger lower portion of the front bumper. It has worked pretty well so far.

I think it would look better all black. I bought parts from a guy who did that to his and it looked awesome!
The plan for my 4Runner is to paint the metal graphite black and the plastic gloss black (front and rear).
