Mystery Part, any ideas?
I was removing the rear driveshaft in my 2000 SR5 4WD 5spd. (Replacing rear u-joint) when this part dropped on to the garage floor from somewhere in the vicinity of the rear differential. Didn't see exactly where it came from and could not see anything amiss under there.
No operational problems have popped up since it fell off.
It's a metal cap that measures about 1/2" diameter and 5/8" long with a real fine wire soft spring inside.
Being in the rust belt doesn't help as the front edge is pretty much gone and may have helped figure out where it came from.
Diff breather maybe?
Gary

You might want to check the condition of the diff fluid.
Water may have gotten in.

Thanks, will definitely be looking in to that when the replacement part comes in tomorrow morning. Its been pretty dry and cold here recently and I haven't driven it much since replacing the u-joint, will have a look at what remains of the breather and hopefully nothing got in there.

I think that’s a Canadian dime. I got one back in change at McDonald’s once.

The new one looks a little better....
Part number is 90930-03031 if anyone is looking for one. (2000, 4WD)
Sits on the driver's side of the dif, partially covered up by the parking brake cable so that's why I didn't see it.
Easy fix to replace.
