Need frame help for my 98 Limited 4WD

I hope you guy's can help. I need to do a frame swap on my 98 Limited 4WD. I know there is a difference between the 2WD and 4WD frames. However I've been unable to find anything definitive regarding what year frames will work on my 98. Are all 1996-2002 V6 4WD frames interchangeable with my 98?

You'll want to avoid the early 96 (through maybe early '97) frames, they are missing a body mount of the later trucks. Body mount styles changed again early in the '00 model year production. The frames will cross, but you have to use the newer style mounts. '99+ front frame horn plates are different due to the front impact bar being added.

Nothing you can't work around, but ideally you'd want a '97 or '98 frame.

I've got an 02 that would benefit from a new frame and I have access to a clean 96 frame. While doable sounds like I'm better off avoiding...

You can always weld a replacement body mount on the older frames. It was added for crash safety I belive but could be wrong..

Yes, the b-pillar mount is for crash safety, mostly. The lower bushing even has a bunch of free play in it - it doesn't hold the body until there is like 1" of movement.

Another thing to think about is the 01/02 has the evap system in the back under the truck - the earlier frames may be missing mounts for that.

I thought the rear evap system mounts to the body? You won't have the 2 spare tire brackets that drop the spare tire down about an 1 inch but you can bolt a set on if the nuts are not there. No biggie. The fuel tube is different in the other pre 01 rigs. Frame should work though. Provided those brackets in the middle of the frame are welded on.

I personally, just weld the original frames up. However, I can understand people not wanting to take that project on..

Oh! It might be to the body. Hard to find pictures...

I have to climb under my 01 to verify. I replaced it several years ago as my was in really rough shape. I am almost certain it's attached to the body.

They really made a mess with complexity in the late models.
Maybe they had to meet emissions for the 2001 model year.

Anyway, from my fleet of 5 . As far as I am aware of , those are 2 changes on the frames from 96 to 02 on the 4wd frames.

I do know we only have one collision manual for the entire generation. So the chassis are extremely minimal...
