*PICS* on How to Mute the "BEEP" Sound on Keyless Entry

Many of you w/ keyless entry might not mind the "BEEP" and "BEEP,BEEP" sound associated with locking and unlocking your T4R, but it drives me nuts. I had a '95 T4R w/ keyless entry and it did NOT have an affirming sound everytime I locked/unlocked it. Now w/ my '02 Sport, using the factory remote, you have to be fairly close to the vehicle for it to even work, so the sound just annoys me instead. I don't mind the lights flashing when locking/unlocking, b/c they make no sound.

I visted a local Toy Dealer, a buddy of mine is a mech. at, and he showed me very easily how to turn off this sound. Why pay a dealer anywhere from $30-$50 bucks to do what takes only a few minutes to do by yourself for free.

Here is the process I used to turn off the "BEEP" sound associated with my Keyless Entry on my '02 Sport. It may vary from year to year on other T4Rs.

Here is the 1st pic showing the Buzzer that produces the sound. The Buzzer is located on the passenger side fender in the engine bay near the back. (Notice in the pic, I've already removed the plug to it.)

Now just unplug the wire to it. Simple as that. I went a few steps further and removed the buzzer all together, since I'll never need it. There is only 1 bolt holding it in, so remove that take out the buzzer and put the bolt back in for a clean look.

**UPDATE**

I've since removed the tape and took Lee's advice and zipped tied the flopping cord to the hose on the left of the picture. (Sorry no pic of the zip tie )

And last, here is a pic of the part I have removed:

Now everytime I unlock/lock or roll down my back window using my remote, there is no "BEEP" associated w/ it! Very cheap and easy. This job gets a 1/2 bannana on the bannana scale.

Oh and one more thing, for you guys out there that want to keep the buzzer, (why I don't know) but would like to lower the volume of the BEEP sound here you go:

On the back of the buzzer, I believe there is a hole in it to allow the sound to come through. (I'm not 100% positive if there is or not, b/c I threw mine out). Take a piece of tape and cover the hole. This will lower the volume a little. To decrease it more, try putting a small piece of plastic over the hole and tape or glue it on. You will still have the sound, but w/ a slightly lower volume.

Thanks.

Yeah, I'll probably zip tie it to something later. I didn't have any zips laying around, but I had plenty of tape laying all over the house!

I have a 98 SR5 and my beeper thing isnt there... When i first got the car, it would beep occasionally. but has since stopped comepletly. So i've been looking for the beeper so I can check teh connection but I have not been able to find it. I see the space where according your picture, it should be But mines not there? Has anyone found theirs on their 98 or has mine been moved somewhere else?

if you look through your manuals there is an easier way to turn of the piezo chirp.

Well Lee you're right about the tape, that stuff is barely holding on! I went digging in my garage and found a zip tie laying under my work bench! (I knew I had some laying around.) I just zipped the plug it to the hose to the left of where the buzzer was.)

Well, I looked through my manual and it said to take it to a dealer to have the volume lowered. My T4R doesn't have a factory alarm, only factory keyless entry. I've heard you can change the volume of the chirp w/ the remote, but you have to have a factory alarm, and I don't. Besides, it's really easy just to unplug it, remove it and throw it away.

Well I hate yours isn't there, but since you have a '98 model, there is no telling where it is. Toyota likes moving there parts around every few years. Good luck finding it.

For an example: My wife has an '00 T4R and the relay box to turn off her DRLs is right by the battery. On my '02, it's nowhere to be found. I can turn it off by cutting a wire, but I wish that relay box was right where hers is.
