The widths are nearly identical between the radio and the guage, I'd figured Id try it there for an OEM look. I do have a Tram 1185 and an adapter, but I don't run it unless I'm in the mountains and wanting to listen in on the NOAA broadcast. I will most likely run an NMO when I upgrade radios and figure out what I'm doing with the roof rack.

The guage is difficult to see when the mic to the CB is plugged in, and I do agree it does take your eyes off of the road for longer period of time, although I've gotten pretty good at quickly reading it from my peripheral. When I'm offroad, my eyes are glued to the temp readings.
The mount is a basic RAM mount with a 1" threaded ball mount. Kiddmen57 on ExpeditionPortal has designed "builder brackets" for the baofeng variants, mainly the UV5R. I had to do slight trimming for the UV82.
