Red face

That scan gauge looks good mounted there. Any plans on an external antenna for your Ham radio?

My biggest problem with the scan gauge is i look at mine all the time and with that setup that takes your eyes pretty far off the road, Just something to think about.

More info on the ham radio moint, interesting setup. Keep it coming buddy

The widths are nearly identical between the radio and the guage, I'd figured Id try it there for an OEM look. I do have a Tram 1185 and an adapter, but I don't run it unless I'm in the mountains and wanting to listen in on the NOAA broadcast. I will most likely run an NMO when I upgrade radios and figure out what I'm doing with the roof rack.

The guage is difficult to see when the mic to the CB is plugged in, and I do agree it does take your eyes off of the road for longer period of time, although I've gotten pretty good at quickly reading it from my peripheral. When I'm offroad, my eyes are glued to the temp readings.

The mount is a basic RAM mount with a 1" threaded ball mount. Kiddmen57 on ExpeditionPortal has designed "builder brackets" for the baofeng variants, mainly the UV5R. I had to do slight trimming for the UV82.

Progress has been slow. Picked up a Rola basket about an hour before we left for the beach. Over the next week the plan is the weld it into one piece and figure out a lower profile mounting solution.

Looking good!

I ran temporary magnet mount antennas for years and dealing with all the hassles associated with setting it up. Finally last year I sucked it up and routed coax through the cabin and drilled the permanent hole in the roof. I should have done it years ago.

When the ham antenna is not in use, there is a little black nub of a raincap that screws on. I highly recommend this route.
