is there a plug n play trailer brake wire kit out there?

just thought I would ask before I go hacking wires with splice connectors which I hate more than anything

The brake controler has a 4 pin female connector on the wire harness lead and thats where it ends which i thought was odd to not at least include a pigtail not sure how to approach the wiring portion of this?

Unfortunately no. eTrailer.com has a nice universal kit that literally has everything you will need for $68 except the 4 pin kit.

The 4 wires are for the brake controller is a 12V hot, ground, brake output, and brake light wire. The trailer brake kit is called the ETBC7 kit and the directions are pretty straightforward. If you need tech support the eTrailer team is knowledgeable and can walk you through the process. And that doesn't include their detailed install videos.

No, I don't work for them. Just a happy customer and this is the 2nd kit I have bought from them. There are other kits put there but they use fuses instead of circuit breakers, smaller wires, and by the time you piece everything you get with the ETBC7 you end up paying more for less quality.

He was asking about a brake controller.

That's just for the lights. Not for actually getting brake power to the trailer.

Nope. That's not a brake controller.

This is a brake controller:

http://www.etrailer.com/dept.aspx?fu...FTRn7Aod-h4Ajw

The purpose of said brake controller is to be able to adjust the brakes on the trailer.

If you're pulling a heavy load, you can increase the brake power of the trailer, to that the TRAILER is stopping you, and you're not getting pushed by the trailer and burning up your brakes.

Only works if you have a trailer with brakes, but it's pretty damn nice thing to have.

Had a buddy with a old F250 he would pull a dump trailer with. The trailer brakes stopped the truck, and the trailer more than the truck stopped the truck and trailer.

Ideally you want to set the brake controller for a neutral setting. Basically so the trailer brakes stops the trailer. Not the truck. This is so you don't over heat the trailer brakes. Not saying you can't do it that way but I would prefer to keep braking loads limited to what they were designed to handle.
