Just to change things up a bit, here is what happens to older Exploders. What you can't see is that the right side forward mount also snapped. To top it off, the lady was told how much the repair would be, and decided to drive the truck like this for 2 months on a 40 mile commute every day over what are really some of the crappiest highways in the country. she finally decided it was time to fix it. My mechanic said it was not the funnest fix.

So, should we all buy these $1000 Exploders and tell Ford to buy them back?

The forward mounts, maybe. But the usual fix is to drill the rivets out(time consuming) and order an aftermarket piece that bolts in place. The issue is when it snaps on the driver side, because the labor involved with dropping the gas tank will quickly exceed the cost of an old Explorer. It's not like there is much of an enthusiast base for these in northern NJ. I actually don't mind these older ones even if they are not 4Runners. I wouldn't mind the 2-door.

Oh yeah, notice that spare, I'm pretty sure it's one of the recall Firestones.

It's unfortunate, my vehicles have been meticulously cared for by myself and yet I experienced the premature rust/rot. Bare in mind I live in a region that is more susceptible to salting than other states.
Your statement of whether Toyota is going to replace frames on 13+ yr old vehicle is moderately valid. However, take into consideration that the other trucks that Toyota rolled into a frame recall campaign were within the same age bracket.
With that said, please do not try to dissuade my efforts to pursue resolution to a known problem, issue, and liability. I will carry this through with much more momentum than others. As stated earlier, all key officials and executives have been notified by myself. This is something that no has conducted in the past. Filling out the simple NHTSA form is the start, directing this issue right up many flag poles, as I have done, should facilitate better results and awareness.
Previously, everyone always directed correspondence, and calls to customer service reps, and other liaisons that represent Toyota at a consumer level. These employees are put in place as the first line defense, all these employees are trained to mute such concerns (brush it under the rug), and deflect the issues. Ultimately, silencing the consumer out of sheer frustration.
In addition, the inclusion of a "Social Media" campaign followed by "Media Campaigns (which I tend to roll out) has never been conducted as well. Lastly, if a class action suit needs to be performed, understand that I will follow through with such action.
I will keep everyone posted.
Hi Dave
I own a 2004 4 runner and was told in august the frame is rusted out and I have a perforation so the car is unsafe to drive. Been through calling Toyota and out of luck I did some research and found a lot of us have the same problems. i called the same attorneys that did the class action suit for the Tacoma, and just today they got the Sequoia and Tundra taken care of. They are dealing with the 4 runner rust I signed all documents for them to start another class action law suit against Toyota. The biggest issue is to find out where the frame was made, I can tell all it was not Dana Corp. my car was made in Japan and when I called Toyota corporate they could not tell me where the frame was made. So for the time being I am waiting to see what is going to happen, but these attorneys are dynamite and they will get to the bottom of it.

Not sure I would characterize attorneys who, with enough of these frivolous lawsuits, could potentially make a car company unprofitable as "dynamite".

I understand where people are coming from. And I think the manufacturer should take responsibility to a extent. It matters where you live, how well you maintain it. I've seen a friends girlfriend buy a 06 Tacoma. Year or two later he was Messing around with the truck and noticed the frame has rust holes ! They replaced her frame. Now I have a 3rd gen. And I have no rust holes in my frames. What I don't understand is why the tacomas have the recal when 4runners shares basically the same frame

"Well if your going to replace that guys frame because of rust and it is a 2000 4runner limited, but mine doesn't because I've taken care of mine, I should get my frame replaced for free also. ."

This stuff has always irked me and I understand both sides. I feel that people feel entitled to things when stuff doesn't last their requested time frame. Now this is my entire opinion and I know I'll be attacked for it, but you pay 35k in 2000. It's engineered to last xx years if you follow the prescribed care. After 6 years it is paid off and you have 80k miles on it (did some camping and drove across the states). 4 more years go by and you have to buy/pay for some of the 100k stuff during this time, timing belt water pump and this costs you another 800. Now you live in a salty area and notice the frame isn't doing well. But did you wash your car like prescribed (suggested you wash it once a month minimum due to road, closer to 4 times a month) this includes underbody washing. Now this costs you an additionall 240.00 a year if you did.

I know everyone has different situations. An example is I have to change my transmission fluid every year to maximize my life of the vehicle. This is because of Temps on the transmission and my overlanding which is slow and cause more wear and tear. I live in the PNW but according to the carfax my vehicle spent over half it's life in Idaho. I have cleaned the frame the best I could and have painted it. But I wash it after every weekend I go out. My dad taught me to always spend a few hours a month working on your vehicle and you will make it last twice as long.

I hope everyone has a good night and let's get. A long.
