Mixing water and oil

Not really a question, just posting pictures of tearing down my 97 with 295k miles. I changed the oil a week ago, was fine. Checked it a few days later and found water contamination on the dip stick.
I hoped of just an intake gasket leak.
Suspected head gasket leak.
Fearing cracked heads.

- Original engine & trans
- Timing belt done at 109k

Dried coolant in all 3 driver side plug tubes...

Coolant came out of the new radiator extremely clean..

Deconstruction begins....

Nice honey glaze with all the miles...

Yeah, done it with my Z28 LT1 camaro. At least in that car you can port the heads and put a new cam in and have a completely different car when you're done (which I did). This rig, not so much.

Stock & slow.
Broken and stopped.
Fixed, stock and slow.

Much easier to disassemble a 350 it seems so far.

I mean 12mm.

Yes Toyota does use 13mm, just not with these head bolts.

A little off the topic but do you mind letting us know what is your oil change interval, what oil you use, and if you owned the truck from new?

Good luck with the repair, hope it all goes well.

Every 5k miles. Dino oil (try to use regular Castrol). 5-30.
I'm the second owner (as far as I know, i bought it at a dealer).

Head bolts aren't supposed to be this easy to take out. Driver side, one of the rear bolts. Was already snapped. =/

The rest were normal.

Are those lower intake gaskets different colors? Looks like someone has already done the passenger side.

Let's see what the head looks like.

They were both black gaskets, looked to be the same kind.

I'm fighting trying to get the heads of now.

Wait, are you saying one of the head bolts was snapped off and just sitting there already snapped? That ain't good.

That is correct. I was about to start breaking the bolts free. When I got to that bolt (rear inside engine side, driver side) that portion of the bolt just came right out. I didn't turn it at all...

Now that sucks.

Hopefully when you get the head off there is enough broken bolt sticking out to get a vise grip on without having to resort to an extractor?
