External trans cooler T4R v Taco

I just put an external trans cooler on my sons 99. My neighbor was over and has an 03 Taco and was wanting to know if he needed to do the same upgrade. I searched online but couldn't find a definite answer for him. By chance does anyone on here know if Tacos have the potential for a Strawberry Milkshake?

His Taco is a 4cyl automatic.

Thanks
Mike

I don't have a definitive answer for you, but I know the pink milkshake issue was not a problem for the 4Banger/Auto 4Runners.

I don't think the 4 cylinders had the combo coolant/tranny fluid radiator.

My 2004 taco with the 2.4l has the in rad cooler. I bypassed that crap and installed a 70268 as soon as I bought the truck.

Tell your neighbor to look at the rad, if it has anything other than a top hose and bottom hose coming out if it the milkshake is a possibility.

Tacos have the same radiator so yes they have the same issue with the pink milkshake. The 2.7L I4 and 2.4L I4 have the same in radiator trans cooler but I think the 2.4L has a smaller radiator but not 100% would need to check that. We dont care about the 2.4L 5 lug Tacos here though. Replacing the old radiator with a new one will also prevent the pink milkshake.

OEM radiator is good for 10 years but no more.

Aftermarket, I'd say 5-6 years. ebay got radiators for $65 shipped! I am replacing my aftermarket radiator and coolant next year (completes 5 years).
This way you can avoid milkshake

i had mine replaced, the oem solution for trans cooling works, the radiator just doesnt last 10 years. sure you can bypass the radiator but why not just replace the radiator.
