another antenna question again !

I have done a search, I have read several threads about antenna replacement, I have read about the taco whip mod
I have decided to stay electric and rodella is no longer selling their replacement mast, so got a factory replacement mast that I want to put in today
I also want to clean out the motor and relube it

however..... the question is....... how to get to the motor

several threads say to remove fender flare and inner splash shield, but all of those threads that I read and had pictures of were for pre 2000.... I have a 2000

then on another thread and another internet source it shows removing the whole fender with flare attached on a 2001 yota

so I would like to know before I start tearing into it...
is it just the flare and the innershield for a 2000 or the whole fender ?

thanks

Just the inter wheel well shield needs to come off and there is a single bolt holding the motor inside, of course u have to take the antenna nut off first.

Yep. Splash guard and remove the bolts on the fender flare. The plastic grommets are a booger. You have to destroy them pretty much to get them out... And you need new ones because the bolts screw into them.

Why not change the whole assembly including the motor? I did that and it's not difficult.

Good reason! I had no idea what they cost now. Granted, its been a few years, probably around 8 or 9, but my complete OEM antenna cost around $50.00 via the internet. It was from Jay Marks Toyota which has apparently changed its name since I can't pull it up.

well, glad I planed on pulling the motor, because when I pulled the old shaft and compared the tail to the new one, half was gone.
sure enough, half was in the motor housing
pulling it was easier than I thought after reading different threads I was not sure what I was in for.
only had to pull the bolt holding the running board and the bolts on the fender flare going up to like 12 oclock. this gave enough slop to slide the inner fender well out from behind the flare enough to bend it out of the way to get to the motor.
did not unplug the motor ( but battery was disconnected) nor disconnect the antenna lead, had enough slop to get the motor out enough to remove the screws , open the housing, get the broken parts out, clean it out, throw some white lube in and reassemble
now all is good
