Rear spoiler/wing help

Found this browsing my local Craigslist and going to take a look at it tomorrow. It's said to fit 96-02 4Runners but I've never seen anything like it. I tried comparing it to the Jaos or Burtman one but it's different. The seller said its a genuine Toyota part but doesn't have a part number so I was wondering if anyone had any guesses. Meeting him tomorrow morning so I'll keep updating...

Believed to be this, any one have any pictures of it on their vehicle?

I have no idea, but as you may already know the eBay link that you provided is for the Hilux Surf 185, which is the JDM version of the 3rd Gen 4Runner, so it should fit.

You are trying to add a rear spoiler and I am trying to get rid of mine! I prefer the cleaner lines without a spoiler. The issue for me is that after you remove the 4 bolts that attach the spoiler to the body panel it still won't come off. Apparently there are bolts holding it on from the inside as well. Even after I completely remove the spoiler I will have to get some minor body work done to smooth out the indentations and then paint.

Anyway, let us know what you find out.

I have the factory one but wouldn't mind a different look. I'm heading out in a few minutes to check it out/buy it and then heading straight to work. If I get it, I'll upload some pictures of it tonight.

I love the look of a spoiler, especially the Burtman ones. I think it almost looks a little naked without one but because both of ours have them so I'm so used to seeing them. The plan is to get this color matched for a little more unique look so we'll see.

Just got home from work and snapped a few pictures of it sitting on top of the current, factory spoiler. The brake light strip is LED so will I need a load resistor? I'm horrible at electrical stuff so any help is appreciated.

Don't quote me on it, but I'm pretty sure the LED 3rd brake light should be fine without a resistor.

Seeing as it's not doing any blinking or anything, I think you may be right.
Any clue on how I would make the input-output harnesses line up? The one for the existing brake light hooks directly up to a bulb and the new one goes through to actually lighting up the LED strip. The harnesses don't match up and the new one didn't come with the matching harness so would I need to purchase a totally new set for a brake light?

Does the factory 3rd light have a harness hanging off the back or does that harness plug right into the housing itself? I've never had it apart so I don't know.

If it's a harness hanging off the back I'd just slice it off and splice it to the new harness to match it up.

The factory harness plugs in to a receiving harness that's connected straight to the bulb. The bulb then illuminates the whole lens.

Ah, best bet would probably be a pair of aftermarket connectors then, don't really have a suggestion for you, I haven't found a set I like enough to recommend.

That is an OEM spoiler in Japan. It comes on the Hilux Surf Sportrunner. It's probably the ugliest factory models of the Surf.

Ah okay. Thanks man, hopefully I can find one that'll do the job. The mounting holes are a little different so this may turn out to be a huge pain and I'll just buy a Burtman spoiler eventually.

And your honest opinion of this spoiler?

I LOVE the spoilers on them, it's the only part they did right in my opinion. The rest of the truck is fugly.

This is normal one that comes on the Surf here:

If you ever decide to sell it, let me know first, I've wanted that style JDM spoiler forever.

Thanks man, I've been so close to pulling the trigger on the Burtman one. Glad I didn't but this wiring is going to suck (I'm horrible at that sort of stuff).

I love that one but getting one here would be a nightmare. I've had my eye on a Burtman one but when this popped up, I needed to hop on it.

Sounds good man haha. I'm planning on keeping it but not sure when I'm going to have time to work on it and put it on. I'll definitely keep it in mind though. I'm in it for $80 so if I decide to sell it, I'll charge ya that plus shipping.
