M/T swap complete in 02

I'm not going to go into detail on the whole swap since its been pretty much covered a few times before. The point of this thread is the CEL and ECU issue since its a 02 4Runner.
The ECU from 2004 Taco was plug and play and the most important NO CEL! I'm getting the VSC TRAC OFF lights though. From what I found out VSC and TRAC are a very rare option even on 04 Tacos so I'm guessing my ECU is not set up for it. Oh well, I'm not too worried about it since there wasn't a time where either one came in handy, TRAC may have been useful for helping to get out of a ditch but I think I can do without. I'm just going to take the bulbs out of the cluster and forget about it.
The VSC computer is still needed though since it controls ABS and the brakes, I tried running without it and barely stopped, the brake pedal was like a rock))). The module can be hidden under the lower dash panel and the mounting points have to be cut off from the housing.
Now I'm a happy owner of a 2002 5-speed!) it feels cool since not many people get to drive the same vehicle with auto and manual tranny)

I also have completed my swap to a 5 speed with multi mode!
I am waiting on a new shift knob though. The crappy one I have is from the donor vehicle.
The 5speed really woke up the truck with the supercharger on it.

Congrats on the swap! Did you also use the tacoma ecu or did you keep your original one?

Yes the Tacoma ecu solved the problem. Worked perfectly.

Congrats on finally finishing your swap! Did you get VSC and Trac codes as well?

I did get those codes as well as ABS which I assumed was linked to VSC/TRAC.
All the shift solenoid codes, AT fluid temp etc were also stored along with check engine.
But it's a done deal now. All I have to do is wire the clutch to make the cruise control disengage when I press the clutch.
4WD works perfectly with the multi-mode case.
What clutch did you go with?
I used the LCEngineering dual comp clutch, due to the supercharger. I like it but it chatters a little when engaging. Specifically when doing a hill start. Not sure if that is typical with that type of clutch. I have the stock weight flywheel.

I used Lucas clutch. It was recommended by my mechanic. So far so good. Im installing a supercharger on mine as well so we'll see how it'll behave.

You are going to love the supercharger!
It is like night and day difference going to the 5 speed. I can pull hills in 5th gear no problem! I live about 4000 feet elevation in mountainous terrain.

Yeah I cant wait! Stupid bypass valve is taking forever to get here, it was on backorder from the stealer. Should be here by the end of the week.
So your VSC TRAC are permanently off now I'm guessing? I never had an ABS code though and my ABS still works. I know Tacos had ABS for sure, maybe not all of them.

I had the same problem finding a bypass valve. I was told to use this one by TRD. PTR29-60031 It was 7.46 at Camelback Toyota

That can't be right. Im talking about the one that pulls the lever under vacuum to give boost. Is that the same one?

I guess you were talking about the IAC valve. The SC instructions said its not used on 01-02 runners

Finally, someone whose done an 02 manual swap! I've been looking through countless threads and haven't seen one done. I have a few questions before i start mine my self.
I have a 97 manual Donor vehicles (was my old ride but frame rot along with other things led me to buy the 02)
If i swapped the ECU and the wiring harness it should be plug and play since its the same engine right? I'm also thinking about keeping the J shifter i always liked it better than the multimode.
Also before anyone says "if you have to ask you probably don't know how to" I've done countless repairs and work on my 4runner alone in my garage with air tools and also have replaced my clutch and serviced my tranny.

No. 96-97 have different connectors between auto ecu and manual ecu and the location of functions are different.
98-02 are plug and play.
