The rig is looking great. I really like the stance and the wheel/tire combo, and the backstory is awesome. I'm glad you kept the "Metallica Truck" all these years. I'm with you though, it would have been a little more awesome if the dash had some autographs.
Thanks, I wasn't going to tell the back story because I've told it so many times to new people I meet in life it's almost "old news" or "played out" but I'm glad I did. It was really fun typing it out in MS Word & reliving the excitement and it should documented on this site.

Reading your thread about how you found the "One" was an inspiration for me.

I found a pic of Erin that I'll post soon.

I was motivated last night to look for some old photos. I bought my house 8 years ago & my old photos have been sitting in a box in the basement since I moved in. And they aren't in photo albums, they're still in photo lab envelopes.
(you kids can Google these terms if you don't understand what I'm saying :-))

So after about 3hrs of opening envelopes I found all of my truck pics from 1999-2004! Some pics I don't remember taking but that was the fun of looking through everything. Camping trips, Road trips to TN, GA, wheeling at Smith Point , LI, etc.

So here is the oldest pic I could find. May of 1999, going camping in the Catskills, NY Memorial Day Weekend. I thought my first mod was adding rain guards but according to my pics I didn't add them until the end of 2001. My first mod or accessory really was my Thule mountain bike rack.
These are my neighbors Keith on the left & Chris on the right & my old dog & best friend for 14 years Bleeargh (RIP 2006) in the middle.

Great Thread - Love the Intro!

This is the first I read your build thread. Great story on the concert and how you won your 4runner. Awesome. Thanks for bringing back all of my NY memories after all of those years. I had visions of me and my family running up 17 to Lakeside Trailer Park to go camping. I heard they filled the lake in quite a while ago.

I'm a tad bit older than you so the bands I grew up with were Jethro Tull, The Who, Alice Cooper, Uriah Heep, Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, AC/DC, Joplin. Huge Metallica and Judas Priest fan back in the day. Caught the Ramones and the Patti Smith Group in concert before I left NY in the late 70's. I mellowed out and transitioned into CSNY, Rush, Pink Floyd, Dylan, Allman Bros. and such...

One of these days I'll start a build thread. Too dang busy...

So here is the oldest pic of my 4Runner. A Saturday morning in early May of 1999 right before going mountain biking. We took my friend Vinny's 2nd Gen because I didn't have a bike rack yet. Weird thing is that I don't even remember that plate #.

Me in front Vinny's 2nd Gen. It rained all day & it was a blast. That's my first mt. bike a GT Outpost Trail. It got stolen off the back of my truck a couple of years later. A perfect excuse to go buy a much better bike.

This pic is for @BigFishAllDay This is Erin, the girl that taught me how to drive stick in her 2nd Gen. This was at a co-workers wedding we went to with the new 4Runner in early June of 99. See how dapper I was & she still wouldn't give it up!

Nice bands! I started out with Zepplin', Sabbath, Purple & then moved on to Ac/Dc, Maiden & Priest. I still listen to all of those bands plus the Thrash bands of the 80's. Overkill, Anthrax, Slayer etc. I saw the Ramone's for my friend Billy's 18th B-day in L'amour Brooklyn. The entire club was pogoing from the first note...1! 2! 3! 4!

What a cool story! And I love Metallica, up until Load. They lost their edge at that point. But oddly, I enjoy Death Magnetic. St. Anger can die in a fire.

Death Magnetic is the best thing they've done in a long long time.

I agree. Re-Load had a few good songs (mainly Fuel and the Memory Remains) but other than that its garbage.

Getting ready for camping in May of 2000 with the Thule bike rack. Vintage 90's Gold emblems & crappy Goodyear RTS's.

I heard something funny the other day. Someone was saying that they wish that they had a time machine. They said that they would go back to about 1984 when Ride the Lightning came out, kidnap Metallica and take them to the recording for "Some Kind of Monster" or something equally bad and make them look at their future selves and promise not to become what they have become. I laughed.

I have been reading the Scott Ian book, "I Am the Man". It covers that early time in the thrash music scene when Metallica had moved out to NY and lived in the same run down rehearsal space that Anthrax played at. It's not bad.
