Windshield Replacement Advice

So it is time to replace my cracked windshield. I want to do this myself because there are some small rust spots that have formed around the molding and I want to fix them or at least stop them from getting much worse. Taking this to a body shop for glass replacement and rust repair isn't something I am willing to pay for. I plan to remove as much rust as I can and then simply rattle can the previously rusted areas, after masking of course. The rust sections are close enough to the window that I should be able to cover up the repaired areas with slightly larger aftermarket molding. The three sizes I have found are...

For those that have replaced the windshield themselves what advice can you share?

Is there a write-up anywhere?

What are the preferred supplies that I will need?

Any particular brand of glass?

Any particular brand of adhesive?

Are those moldings suitable for this application?

Will the plastic "holders" at the bottom of the windshield break when I remove the glass?

Are there any other misc OEM parts I might need?

This is not my only means of transportation so the project can take as long as it needs to in order to do it right and I am not against buying some tools that will make this job easier.

Thanks in advance!

There are lots of threads for 1st Gen windshield removal and rust repair but I haven't seen one for 3rd. Most 1st geners call an independent glass to come out and remove the windshield at their house or shop. Then they take their time fixing the rust and call the company back to come put in the new one. They will have several rubber moldings that will fit. I think doing it yourself would require some specialty tools and be as expensive as paying to have it done. Try calling some independent shops. If you do it yourself you will have to take pictures and make a how to thread!
