Disconnecting Driveshaft from Transfer case?

Hi Folks,

Replacing my Transfer case due to a crack (not the most fun).

Either way does anyone have a write up on disconnecting the drive shafts from the transfer case?

I disconnected the 4 bolts on each that connect to it. but getting any wiggle out of that is just not going to happen it seems like.

use a pry bar or the like, or maybe even a hammer. use caution where you hit it, if you choose a hammer, so as not to dent the shaft, or ding the caps.
they are often stuck on there pretty good, but don't really take too much to get them off.

this.

you might put ONE bolt back in place, with the nut on loosely, to save you when it pops off.

First thing to do is remove the grease zerks from the slider joints. That will make it easier to compress.

If you still can't get the front one to compress, you can take the bolts out of the FRONT end at the front diff, and then you only have two plates that slide against each other. The front end has bolts that remove completely, the TC end has nuts on studs. Then it is easy to pull it off the studs in the flange on the TC. Similarly, the rear D/S has studs at the TC, but bolts in the back, but you should not have trouble compressing the rear D/S.
