I'm getting ready to install the Bilstein 7100's this weekend and from taking a couple measurements it looks like it will be a pretty tight squeeze fitting those shocks with the stock wheels. I don't want to rub my tires on my new shocks so I went ahead and bought some 1.25" G2 Axle & Gear wheel spacers. Hopefully I can actually raise the upper mounting point even higher up by another inch or two more than I planned so my lower mounts aren't hanging so low to get snagged on rocks. I'll hopefully have everything mounted up this weekend. I will keep an update on it and try to take pictures.
Also my neighbor gave me his stock wheels from his SR5 5th gen. I might just run those on a regular basis so I don't wear out my M/T's too fast.

Finally got the new rear shocks done! The ride is so much better than the LC shocks I had on before. It's much smoother and I don't feel all the little bumps in the road and it absorbs the big stuff way smoother. It ended up being a lot more work than I thought and I was able to keep my stock bump stops with not extensions. I had to trim my rear bumper and fender a little more but that was the easier part of it. I ended up notching the frame and plating it all with 3/16" plate. I was also able to raise the lower mounts almost an inch higher. The coils don't seem like they will have an issue spitting out since the LC coils are pretty tall. I haven't put the rear sway bar back on yet so I still get a lot of body roll which leads to roll steer but it isn't bad when you know it's there when your driving.

Went to Truck Haven/ Ocotillo Wells over the weekend with my brother, dad and another friend that has a Jeep. We had so much fun out there because there is so much variety. Everything from wide open desert, sand washes, awesome hill climbs, narrow canyons that a vehicle can barley squeeze through without body damage and of course the playground.
I ended up breaking a CV out on the trail. The sad thing is I knew it was gonna happen but I kept pushing anyways. I had my wheels turned, suspension flexed and I was power braking keep both front wheels turning and I was trying to bump it up the hard spot. Luckily I had 2 spares on me and all the tools to fix it. Got it done in about 45 min.
We found a really badass technical section right below (south) the basketball court/ phone booth. There was parts where there was literally a couple inches of clearance on either side of the canyon. And the turns were so tight that I had to either make a 3 point turn or I would just use my rock sliders against the hill or rock and let that help me turn.

I just talked to my brother about getting me a new battery because my 5 year old Interstate group 35 is on its last leg. I plan on heading up to Johnson Valley for some off-roading and possibly camping and I'd like to have a fresh battery if I do camp since I'll be camping without any other vehicles. Since my brother is the purchasing manager for Star Auto parts I had him order me a Deka Ultimate 727FMF battery and it came out to almost $75 after tax. Has anyone tried one of these batteries or any 27F in a 3rd gen? I know it's longer than the 24F but it should still work. I may need to fabricate a new hold down bracket but the height and width are the same as the 24F.

AssBurns 2000 Limited Build Thread

Got a couple new little updates. I got some lights mounted on my bumper. I got a pair from my brother for helping him do some work and my buddy gave me a pair of KC daylighters.

I also got a new Kenwood double din head unit installed. Don't got a picture but it's a pretty simple and has Bluetooth which is pretty much all I wanted.
Got my Dekka group 27 battery installed with no issues. Again no pics.
I made a mount for a flag/whip that is bolted to my spoiler on the hatch.

I've been driving on the spare wheels my neighbor gave me off his 2015 4Runner. It looks pretty lame with the smaller tires and 17" rim but it saves my Offroad tires from wear and I get a little better gas mileage driving 75 miles a day for work than 33" tires

Also got a pic of the 4Runner pulling out a Jeep YJ that got stuck because of open diffs

@snow junky
Yes I made the upper and lower mounts for my rear shocks and the tires don't rub in the rear at all with 1.25" wheel spacers. I rub in the front on my UCA's but wheel spacers should take car of that.

Dude. Love your build. The shock mount job looks great.. Are the shock mounts higher because of the longer shocks in the back? You mounted them more forward ... I see people usually mounting them more towards the rear. Why is this?

@infamousRNR
Thank man!
Yeah I have 12" shocks so they are significantly longer than stock and when mounted vertically instead of angled inboard they need to mounted even higher. I'm not too sure why people mount theirs to the rear. There is a lot more room to clear the tires if they are angled forward because of how the axle moves under articulation and creates roll steer. My goal was to gain as much down travel as reasonably possible and keep my stock bump stop location.
@snow junky
I my original plan wasn't to notch the frame like I did but I would have rubbed either my tire or hit the frame rail depending on where I mounted my lower mounts. So I decided to notch the frame quite a bit and was able to move the upper mount inwards about 1/2" which helped clear the tires.

This past New Years weekend I spent 4 days out in Ocotillo Wells/ Truckhaven. We spent most of everyday out on the trails exploring. We even planted a BBQ that we had in our backyard on the top of one of the hills out there and BBQ'd with our whole group (11 jeeps). Friday night while we were out on the obstacle course I ended up breaking something in my rear end. I'm not to sure if I broke some teeth off my ring gear or I broke my Locker. I am going to try to pull the rear end tomorrow and open it up to check the damage. Other than that we all had a blast and nobody got hurt.

Pulled my 3rd member last night to find a broken ring and pinion. I was also able to confirm that I have 4.30 gearing which is nice but it's not near as easy to find new ring a pinion gears. I'm pretty sure Yukon Gear and Axle is the only aftermarket manufacturer to make 4.30 gears for our TV6 8" rear axles. I've heard a lot of good things about East Coast Gear Supply and decided to order through them. I ordered a complete rebuilt 3rd member with 4.30 gearing for $700 plus $550 core charge which I will get refunded once I send them my 3rd.

Made a Hi-Lift mount the other night because I was tired of strapping it down every trip. I wanted to keep it pretty easily accessible since I use it often enough. Eventually I would like to beef it up a bit and add a spare tire mount but that will come when I get motivated to actually do it.

This would be an Ideal setup once I make the spare tire carrier.

Last weekend while out at KOH we decided to attempt Tack Hammer trail. I did it without needing to be winched at all but I pretty much destroyed my bumpers. I bent the front bumper in enough to have to cut a few inches of the bumper with a hack saw because the tire was rubbing. Rear bumper has been pretty beat up for a while so it didn't bother me but I didn't like how the front bumper was sitting crooked. I decided to just pull the bumper and hopefully get started on making a new plate bumper within a few weekends.

Nope I haven't done anything for skids yet. My gas tank skid is already bent to shit so it didn't get much worse. I managed to avoid slamming the belly too much. I did slightly bend my control arms on a run just don't know which one caused it. I need to do some belly skids soon with the kind of crap I put this thing through
