Bilstein 4600s with ome 906s?

Decided the shocks on my stock 02 runner with 156k miles need to be replaced, so might as well replace springs too. From what I've read Bilstein 4600s look to be a good choice for a daily driver. I was originally thinking of going with brand new 99 tall coils all around, but after a lot of reading people say they dont hold up as well as other similiarly priced new coils I decided on maybe ome 906s. A lot of people say they like them, and I'm thinking with the bilstein shocks it should make for a comfortable ride. Yes or no?

And since I'm not doing 99 talls all around, what front coil options am I left with?

I have 4600's with 99 talls up front and 906's in the rear. Unloaded, as a daily driver, it is stiff. My wife would call it jarring. Fully loaded it is great.

If I did it again I would go with OEM shocks and 99 talls. If you choose the 906's, I would recommend bilstein 5100's in the rear. They are a softer shock than the 4600. The 4600's are stiff.

My truck came with 4600. They were too stiff / jarring, but handled great.

Got tundra 5100's (trd spring/906) nice and soft, but swayed too much, which lead me to get Addco sway bars. Now it rides and handles well.

Still having trouble deciding on springs. 906's sounds too stiff for a daily driver that won't see heavy loads very often (Im a college student so no expensive toys to haul, and no camping to be had in south florida) so I'm back to looking at 99 talls. Not sure if I even want those though..

Decided on Bilstein 5100s. Founds these on the bilstein site. Front bilsteins for 3rd gen 4runner. But the only rear 4runner billies they list are for 3" lift only. So what rear billies to run, tundras or tacomas?

I used these for my rear: https://wheelersoffroad.com/product/...96-02-4runner/

If I recall correctly, they are a 5100 for a tundra with a different bushing pressed in to fit the 4runner hardware.

I went with the TRD Tundra coil and 906 with 5100s all the way around and think the ride is great. Nice baby lift for our 02 4runners as well.

Another option if you aren't looking to lift at all just throw some 99's on the rear and leave the front coils alone. This should combat any potential visual sagging/rake down the road. I have air bags in the rear now but in the winter they do not provide a pleasant ride so I may just throw some '99s in the rear.

Moog makes pretty good replacement coils. I had some on the rear of my 2nd gen $runner and they took care of the sag without sacrificing ride quality. They aren't very expensive either.

I have 4600s with 99s in the front and 906s in the back. After hearing about how stiff they are I was nervous to do the 906s. But it's barely noticeable. My only weight in the back is my storage box and the spare underneath. My storage box with all my gear in it can't be much over 100 lbs. I love the 906s.

I also run the 906 coils with worn stock shocks in the rear. I think they ride great. I usually travel empty and all I have is a retrofitted 2nd gen tire carrier (30-40lbs more) and that's it. I actually am going with the shocks in wheelers offroad for a replacement. It's time for me.

I've been happy with my OME 906 coils paired with Rancho RS9000XL shocks in the rear. The 9000XL are adjustable, allowing you to determine how firm or soft you want them to be.

I gained half an inch all around from the shocks, then another inch in the back after the 906s were installed. 36 from ground to edge of the fender flare in the front and a little over 36.5 in the back. Truck was perfectly level before the 906s. I like having the slight rake because sometimes I tow or load the truck up. There's no way I could tolerate a reverse rake lol

Seems like those with 906s with XX brand shocks have ADDED weight on the rear via tools/retro spare etc basically 50lbs or more than fully on stock giving them a 'better ride' loaded.

If one was to get rid of the rear sag (or promote slight forward rake) , retain the same ride quality as factory, which REAR combo:
1) 906s
2) 99 tall
3) Other coil spring brand ?

WITH which REAR brand shocks :

1) Bilstein 4600 5100 or
2) Rancho RS?
3) Other shock brand ?

I would wager it would not be noticeable if I removed my storage box out of the back. I did the 4600s and 99s all around and the ride was maybe 10% firmer and truck was completely level. Then added 906s and gained no more than an inch. I really can't say the back end ride was noticeable. I've seen a lot of people say to keep a couple hundred pounds in the back for the 906 springs for a better ride, but wasn't necessary in my case. It seems YMMV because my friend has a 2000 T4R and his stock suspension was doughier than mine. He ended up doing a Sonoran Steel 1.2 and now I wish I'd done that lol

But to answer your question, 99 fronts and 906s in the back, with Bilstein 4600s sounds like what you would want. The back is only an inch taller and I had it loaded up with gear for a two week trip with sleeping platform in the back and it only compressed maybe .5 an inch. Rides great all the time.

I have never heard of gaining height with just shocks. Where these measurements immediately after setting the vehicle back on the ground and not rolling it a bit (10ft) to get the front to settle out?

What size tires did you have when you took those ground to top of wheel well measurements?
